It has been pretty solidly shown by Ukraine intelligence that the Russian catholic church (Moscow Patriarchate) is deeply infiltrated by FSB, and Patriarch Kirill is most likely an FSB plant.
In 2022 the Ukrainian branch declared complete independence from the Moscow Patriarchate, because the Moscow Patriarchate supported the invasion of Ukraine 100%.
Bulgaria will try to protect the Russian spiritual leader.
