He made an app just to give her attention

It's always disappointing to see how quick people are to shit on others' attempts to build connections in their own ways.

Yeah, it's kind of silly to make a blinking light app when the phone implies they could just call or use one of a million text-based message options.

But he set aside his own time to build something he thought she would like. There are so many worse ways someone can spend their time on a computer (or in general), I don't see why this seems worthy of ridicule. Also, why phrase it as "she wants attention"? Is it really any worse than her calling and saying, "I miss you" or "I'm just bored and want to talk to you"?

her calling and saying, "I miss you" or "I'm just bored and want to talk to you"?

Congratulations, you "built an app". I mean I get what you're saying and sort of agree, somewhat depending on his skill level. Like if this was hard for him to build that is cooler than if he was just showing off or something. Because yeah, communication is a solved problem. I once built an app that made a webpage that was sort of a coder/decoder for our messages so my then-girlfriend and I had a "secret language". To me the appeal of that is that it was novel/silly/weird and it was unique to us. Which I guess is sorta like this app.. but I dunno, this one also seems a little prone to abuse and one dimensional.

Eh, I agree and disagree. I don't use my phone extensively, and rarely have it on me if I'm at home, because I don't want to be reachable by anyone with my phone number/email address at all hours of every day. I like having the excuse of "Oops, I didn't have my phone on me.", " Sorry, my phone died", etc etc. However, I still want my wife to be able to get ahold of me when she needs to, so what she'll do is blink the lights through home assistant to get my attention. I didn't "make an app" or anything like that, but giving your loved one a special way to contact you that only they have is something nice and thoughtful

When you put it like that, how can I disagree? I cannot really put my finger on why the description in the post feels a little lamer than most ideas like this would be, but it does somehow.

I tried this many years ago as a way to stop being interrupted during work because task switching is extremely draining. The light was inconspicuous and out of sight from my desk. Didn't work in the slightest and I still get interrupted by my wonderful partner several times a day by her meowing at me.

But what if he is not in that room?

It sends him a message blast via phone, discord, email, slack, Facebook. Then after no response, the house alarm starts ringing.

Its like a red alert klaxon.

I made one of these for my deaf dog lol

Why reinvent a text that says "heyyy"

Wait... Is that what that means... Oh... Oh no... Umm if there is a knock on the door asking where the barn is just ignore it

Since when do women need a button when they want attention

Well, we don't need your opinion either, yet here you are.

Did I touch a nerve? Ts ts ts

Mouths exist. You can just communicate using words. Fucking shocker, I know.

Novelty and pomp are the best parts of being human. This is goofy and dumb, but I like the spirit.

What if there are monsters outside that indiscriminately attack sources of noise, so everyone has to remain totally silent but otherwise can go about their lives normally?

Did not expect the quiet place plot twist
