As someone who works around a lot of white blue-collar workers, yes they really are the dumbest most pig headed idiots you will ever find. No amount of evidence, financial pain, or debate will change their stupid, shrivled, idiot minds.

It’s fear of being exposed. Their os is run by their ego. They don’t have the ability to reflect because they don’t accept themselves.

I still hear “I voted for Trump three times, but…” on a regular basis. Trump voters by-and-large aren’t repentant and they don’t give the appearance of the cognitive capacity necessary for “doubting”. That would imply reconsideration based on available facts. What they are doing now would be better described as “musing idly about the specific self-serving details of”.
Building your identity around supporting a cult leader is a helluva drug.
