I'm curious about the use of the term "supersonic" for something moving through the vacuum of space.

Also, wow this is beautiful.

Imagine an object moving at super-sonic speed. This object, as it moves through a medium, causes the material in the medium to pile up, compress, and heat up. The result is a type of shock wave, known as a bow shock.

The bittersweet beauty of Saṃsāra and creation through destruction. I'm grateful I get to see snapshots of it on galactic scales even if it's somewhat terrifying conceptually.
