Yikes!

So by that logic, a Japanese person shouldn't wear a cowboy hat, or play a saxophone or violin?

Why has this exaggerated complaining about cultural appropriation become so common?

She can wear a Kimono if she is white or black or whatever.

That is one thing that I hope goes away soon.

It's almost always cultural appreciation, not appropriation! Please try my culture's foods, wear our clothes and watch our movies. Ask me about how I lived, what parts of my culture signify and where they came from. This is how we bridge cultural gaps, not by isolating and gatekeeping!

I do not want my house to be walled in on all sides and my windows to be stuffed. I want the cultures of all lands to be blown about my house as freely as possible. - M K Gandhi

Exactly this!

I hope the original poster in the screenshot was suitably embarrassed.

There’s another one accusing someone of being a nazi because his Twitter name was ø something. The guy was Scandinavian and his name began with that letter. I’ll see if I can find it.

Lol. Wow. Wait until those dumbasses find out there's even people who worship old Norse gods who - get this - aren't nazi scum and actually just want to follow their ancestors' religion...

These jerks need to get a life and stop appropriating cultural symbols and labeling anything vaguely Nordic as nazi symbolism... show me Armenian runes or a fucking swastika, or it's just a normal religious symbol.

It's no different from calling anyone wearing a cross a satanist because an inverted cross is a satanic symbol...

I like the GBA SP cameo

Cool, I've never seen this one with the actual passport photo. That hair and smile though... Based on a quick google that's not approved for a Japanese passport photo.

Relevant section:

Any photos with an exaggerated smile with teeth showing, hair covering the eyes, or any digitally altered photos may not be accepted.

I can see how that smile might not fit that req, but also since it is a "may not" instead of "will not" I imagine whoever is doing the paperwork has some leeway.

I was looking at this link which mentions no smiling and hair away from the face and forehead, but yeah yours is probably more accurate.

My daughter has a similar hair style and for her Norwegian passport she had to tie the bangs with a hair clip before they accepted it. Somehow I would have thought Japan would be just as strict.

Yeah, seems weird to me that they'd accept that as a passport photo in Japan. There's a whole pdf of unacceptable photos on this government page, and includes not only a smile, but also bangs over your forehead, not exposing your ears, etc.
