You can quite clearly tell when the Reddit apps stopped working on this graph of lemm.ee traffic 📈
2y 11mon ago by lemm.ee/u/sunaurus in meta@lemm.ee from i.imgur.com👋 to all the newcomers, let me know if you need any help getting settled in!
My first post as a refugee! Glad this place is here to fill the void.
Welcome, Bill!
Guess I’ll piggy-back; This is my first post/comment here as well. I came from Apollo (long time subscriber & beta tester). I think the grass will be greener… bring on the refugees and Boost for Lemmy (Maybe one day Apollo? One can dream)!
If you came from Apollo, than you can jump back on Apollo. Sorta.
Thank you; It’s currently down, but I like its UI. I’ve been beta testing Memmy for Lemmy on iOS, and so far I really enjoy it! I have Apollo up and running actually, but I haven’t used it as much since I found Memmy.
Edit: Spelling
Baby Steps to Lemmy, Baby steps to the comments, baby Steps to the post. -Dr. Leo Marvin
This perfectly describes the last month for me.
I came over when the blackout started and it already feels more like home than Reddit has in years. Reddit slowly got more and more toxic/up its own ass as time went on….. like do you remember the episode of South Park where Kyle’s family moves to San Francisco? It was the Prius episode…. All the folks in San Fran sat around all day getting high and sniffing their own farts. That’s how Reddit has felt recently.
This change has been a long time coming I think, fuckin spez just threw some gas on a fire to try and make a quick buck.
Welcome!
Welcome to the party!
Don't have to live like a refugee
It's Bill frickin Murray
Welcome Bill, welcome to the new wave!
Welcome! Check out this guide if you need any help understanding Lemmy and the fediverse 😊
Joining the party as RIF kicks the bed :')
Gonna miss RIF.
Yup. Little pang of sadness seeing it finally gone. I got years of procrastination out of that app.
Me too.
Me three.
Me four
Me five.
Rif has been reddit for me for the past 10 ish years now, opened the app today to see error 429.
Good to be here :)
Ngl Jerboa is quite similar to RiF, so I'm definitely settling in well.
Definitely like Jerboa so far. Just spent the past hour searching and joining tons of channels.
Jerboa stopped working for me today for whatever reason so I switched to Connect and actually think I like it better so far.
Could be due to the version of the instance you're on. Beehaw is on an older version and Jerboa crashes when you open it as Jerboa is on the latest version.
Yeah they really gotta make the app robust against old versions of Lemmy. No way all the instances are going to update as soon as the latest version is pushed.
The reason is 0.18 breaks a lot of features for example captcha. They all waiting for the fix.
I'm aware, but even so, admins have day jobs and whatnot. Perfectly coordinating every update across the entire Lemmy federation is just not something you should expect.
Lift off is also great.
It's my fave too but unfortunately has the opposite problem to Jerboa and currently servers that have upgraded to 0.18.1 don't work! Hope they can get it sorted soon.
Edit: This is now fixed, hurrah!
Jerboa stopped working for me too, I switched to summit, it's a really nice lemmy app too.
Wow even the classic reddit double comments are here too, feels right at home
Jerboa stopped working for me too, I switched to summit, it's a really nice lemmy app too.
Jeroba needs Lemmy version 0.18.0, some instances are still on 0.17.4. You can sign up with another instance that's up to date and Jeroba should work.
Using wefwef for now, thanks for the recommendation will give it a gander.
I love how quickly the community is coming up with replacements for apps and the service as a whole that people are used to.
Is wefwef an android or iOS app? I'm using jerboa, but heard about the virtues of wefwef and wanted to try it.
It's a PWA(Progressive Web App) that functions through the browser and can be installed as an application that is just a wrapper around the browser.
All that to say it works on both Android and iOs, using it on Android myself.
Testing reply from wefwef. What a strange way to run an App!
Hope you've found the install button, it becomes more like a normal app once you can launch it directly from the app drawer instead of through the browser
Yeah I did. Tbh, I used reddit is fun, and the gesture system on wefwef is a little confusing.
I'm really fucking sad about rif :(
Yeah, same tbh. I think I still had some hope that the API changes would get reversed even as the announcements from RiF/Apollo kept trickling in. I just wanted to lurk on my favourite app forever :(
I just wish there was a decent iOS app for lemmy that worked on iOS 15.
Try wefwef (name sucks). It's a progressive web app so version shouldnt matter.
Couldn't get that one to work. Using Liftoff. Its solid. Pretty basic easy layout like rif. A little clunkier and slower. Smooth transition.
Very sad to say goodby to RIF after 9 years. Lets get this party started and I got some learning to do in this new environment.
Sync for android here
The Dev from Sync announced a new Lemmy app it's actually a WIP. Just wait a few weeks.
And it's out now :) It works brilliantly, as you'd expect.
I'm missing baconreader :(
Same. Would love to see them make a lemmy app
damnshame.gif
You're all the technology-savvy intelligent ones who figured out Lemmy right away, months ago. I was trying to get into Lemmy even before July 1st but finally figured it out today November 10th! I finally got into Lemmy today. It was nearly as difficult as applying & repeatedly being rejected for competitive employment somewhere. sheesh.
Was browsing Apollo, it ceased, I opened the Reddit app once, closed it, signed up for Lemmy.
Same but from Reddit is fun
Ditto, had been using it for 13 years.. end of an era.
Playstore says i first downloaded rif in 2014. I had rif setup to launch on a downward swipe on the homescreen via nova launcher for just as long. Im not going to uninstall rif but the downward swipe gesture is going to be filled with which ever lemmy app ends up suiting me best
Checkout wefwef.app
It at least looks like RIF for the time being.
Twins in the 13 year club. The last couple years on Reddit saw a pretty major quality decrease, so I’m actually kind of thankful to have an excuse to cut myself free and find a new digital social outlet
Now install wefwef, a great Apollo clone
I came from RiF. I was shocked that reddit even went through with the block. Oh well, onto bigger and better things. Reddit can be a footnote in history.
I just moved Memmy into Apollo’s old place on the home screen. I’m not touching the official reddit app.
💖 to everybody who's making this possible. There's hoping that all the traffic can be managed
Speaking of traffic, if I were interested in running my own federate, what can I expect in terms of loading and where is the content actually stored, my single instance or distributed? I see the reqs. on RAM and CPU utilization but I'm actually more curious about usage data.
It depends on many parameters. Data from your users is stored locally. But then you have federation: every time one of your users subscribes to a community of another instance, your instance will cache it locally. You can manage how much cache it uses, but the cache is there of a reason.
Where did you find the CPU and RAM utilization data?
https://join-lemmy.org/docs/administration/administration.html
Lemmy uses roughly 150 MB of RAM in the default Docker installation. CPU usage is negligible.
I was in denial about Apollo going dark and naturally when I woke up at 2am I had to spend 2 hours finding & getting lemmy & wefwef setup.
Bye bye reddit!
Hah, me right now when I should've been asleep long ago. I tried to open RIF as usual, realized it really happened, and then spent the last hour or two trying to understand this site and make an account and whatnot. I was only partially successful on the former, but at least I made it here!
Welcome to the family, son
Thanks, dad.
Goodbye Reddit is Fun, hello Lemmy
RIF will me missed. I just downloaded "connect for lemmy" seems good if youre used to RIF. But i just got the app for 10min so we'll see
I used Relay for Reddit for over 10 years. I just opened it to find it still working. Apparently the Dev is working out a pricing model with Reddit and it is continuing to work. I wish him the best of luck but sadly I'm not goning to be paying.
Plus you can't see nsfw content which a lot of non-porn content still gets marked as
Same, I uninstalled Relay today expecting their app to shutdown soon.
Was on Apollo when it went dark, thought it was going to be a few more hours and apparently so did Christian but they killed access before he could revoke the key. Fuck reddit/u/spez
Oh for sure! I looked up how to nuke my Reddit account using Power Delete Suite and then created a bookmark on my iOS homepage for wefwef.app . Was even able to integrate my subreddits.
Second ever comment here. I watched Apollo shut down live, went to sleep and then immediately tried opening it up again after waking up, out of habit - girlfriends still asleep and I got so used to browsing Reddit for a bit before we get up on weekends, it has become muscle memory.
Using Wefwef currently and it’s nice, awesome work especially for a web app.
Wow. Wefwef is really great. Thanks for making me aware of it.
Mlem also looks like Apollo
Wefwef is perfect. It already feels like home.
It's 2am here and I just did exactly the same thing with rif. Gonna take some getting used to...
Give it an hour or so
So long RIF. So long Reddit.
Rest in peace, RIF. Rest in piss, spez.
You betta not piece on the table!
Crazy that looking right past that beautiful blue icon to tap on a Lemmy browser instead. Reddit was amazing for quite a while, time to pass the torch.
Giving this a shot after RIF died on me. Fuck Spez. I hope this takes off.
I joined a few weeks ago but after RIF died just over an hour ago it looks like I've found my new home.
I'm so sad about RIF, I also haven't heard anything about the dev coming here either :(
He's made some posts here, he linked to a Lemmy community called reddit was fun.
the RIF dev said he was coming to lemmy.world. I just saw the post on my RIF app before i got a 429 error. RIP RIF
From the detritus of the old generation, the new generation shall emerge.
Fuckin waste of time that reddit.
May we all bask in our new waste of time: Lemmy
ALL HAIL \o/
I joined 2 weeks ago, I technically am a migrant lol but I feel like a veteran already .
WELCOME REDDITORS!
that is cool. there is no such thing as too many graphs, so don't be shy in the future 😆
Do we have a dataisbeautiful yet?
it seems there are some
https://lemm.ee/search?q=dataisbeautiful&type=Communities&listingType=All&page=1&sort=TopAll
Check sub.rehab
Haha, guilty. I went to mindlessly pull up RIF at about 7 pm CT and it wasn't loading comments, then I went oh, right, UTC it's midnight. And now two hours later here I am on lemmy
Same story here but with Sync on Android. Looking forward to seeing where this goes.
I think the Sync devs are making a Lemmy app, so maybe your experience here won't be too different...
That's what I hear! Looking forward to it! 😁
devs? iirc there's only one.
Sync is coming to Lemmy so it will be like you never left.
Yep here after sync death. Can't wait for the new app
Same here, I just got back from spending a day at the museum with my nephew, and after getting home I tried loading up RIF. Got the "429" and just sighed before looking up a mobile lemmy app.
Welcome!
I just joined after Apollo stopped working. I’ve been over at squabbles since the black out. No idea how this place works. Excited to dig in and figure it out though!
welcome!
lemmyverse.net too!
If you aren’t sold on the interface then check out wefwef.app. No affiliation - just spreading the gospel. It feels like Reddit on Apollo, but here instead.
It’s worth it. If you’re on iOS try Memmy.
I’d strongly recommend Mlem if you liked Apollo.
I want to but the issue is I can’t find an ipa to sideload it on his GitHub and the TestFlights a full. EDIT: I spoke to soon it’s working!
Same—finally had to do the thing, and my god, finding communities to follow has GOT to get a lot easier if this is gonna work out
Which bit are you struggling with? Would be useful to know how it's looking from a newbie perspective so we can make our explanations more effective. Also, welcome! 😄
Welcome and enjoy!
Fuck u/spez
I hope spez chokes on his narcissism.
Coming from Apollo? Go here: wefwef.app
Another refugee here. Coming from Sync.
I can't wait for syncforlemmy!
Ooh yeah. This is my future!
Yup, Sync refugee here too. Adding my name to the "active users" stat with my first Lemmy comment.
Thankfully LJ is making a Sync client for Lemmy, they post updates on c/syncforlemmy
Curious.. since Lemmy is still starting up, do we have the subredditd or the subcommunities setup here or is that still in progress?
Came from sync to but have been here for a few weeks. Looking forward to his Lemmy client.
Same here. I had been using Sync since it came out on my Pixel and used Apollo on my iPad.
This whole fediverse thing is a bit strange after 10 years of rif. But Reddit was going downhill for quite a while. Hope this takes off!
+1 RIF refugee checking in with a testing first comment.
Testing... Testing.
yup, +2 RIP RIF
RIFugee 😏
5x5
Same for me. Woke up, launched Sync and got the message that it's not working anymore now and will work with Lemmy later. Immediately created an account here 👍
Sync has been great for me. Wonder why is wasn't more popular.
Well it's coming to Lemmy which I'm excited about
Sync refugee here too. Just joined this instance and patiently awaiting Syncs new Lemmy app!
Fellow Sync refugee here. So sad to see it go. I feel for all the devs that just got shafted. The only good takeaway is that we're here now and hopefully reddit will suffer for it.
They're making a Lemmy version so don't feel too bad
I'm on Connect, I hope the UI gets better, Lemmy has a lot of potential but it needs work
Hey, you should try Liftoff (it's an actual app) or Wefwef (a webapp that feels like a native app).
Both of those are much better than Connect.
Just tried installing Wefwef, and the first thing that hits me, is the lack of dark mode under appearance settings. Am I blind, or is that not a thing in Wefwef?
EDIT: Liftoff feels rather nice, the menus need a little getting used to (and that big obnoxious '+' in the middle of everything), but overall it seems like a nice experience.
Not sure if any of these are better than Connect, but I'll keep them all installed and keep using them in shifts, to see which one feels better.
EDIT: 2 weeks later I've switched full-time to Liftoff.
I think it follows your system theme, I'm running it on dark mode.
I think when I tried it wefwef was dark. It probably defaults to your system theme
That's unfortunate, as I like having my phone in light mode for regular daytime use, and keep my "chill apps" dark for when sitting in the evening and scrolling.
But it does make sense, thanks for the reply. :)
Thank you! I just downloaded Liftoff. It does look much cleaner than Connect, but it's having trouble loading stuff, hopefully that gets worked out
We'll have a ton of high quality options soon. Lots of the Reddit app devs are working on Lemmy apps. I wouldn't be surprised if almost all the ui code can be reused
Yeah, I really wish at least one of the major third party Reddit apps was able to launch their Lemmy version today, bit of course I understand it takes time
Connect looks nice and is fast, but it's really buggy too. But early days. In a month or two we should have a few more good options. Really looking forward to some great Reddit apps coming to Lemmy.
Connect dev here. I'm getting those bugs ironed out! I'm also a Reddit migrant and the app has only been live for about 9 days now.
Sorry, didn't want to diss you there. This is crazy impressive for the short time frame.
All the apps are in early and rapid development and I am looking forward to what is going to happen in the months to come.
My point was only the (obviously unfair) comparison to Reddit apps that have years under their belts. But Lemmy apps will get there too.
You're doing a great job so far, commenting from Connect right now.
Thank you for your work! Connect is the only Android app for lemmy that works on my EMUI/Nougat phone, so I'm really grateful I stumbled upon it. Thunder, liftoff and the likes can't connect, probably because of the old WebView version I'm using - the newer ones sadly fuck with Midori Lite :(
I've just installed Connect earlier today and immensely enjoy it so far! I'm looking forward to maybe some additional Themes; and don't worry 'bout the bugs too much, I'm sure you've got the few main ones in your sights and will figure stuff out soon enough! :) – Keep up the good deeds!
Try wefwef (the name sucks, idk why they picked it)
It's a web app that's really clean looking and smooth. Wish they would add a top (day/week/month) sort though for postings
Yeah it exists for comments but not for posts in communities for whatever reason. Liftoff has a sort by top (day, week, month) available to sort by in communities
And they added it last night to posts! I'm set now
I'd love to see day by day numbers on a chart of how many joined
well there is this - https://the-federation.info/node/details/50540
also this: https://lemmymap.feddit.de/
Bigger circle = bigger community.
That's some pretty cool information
I straight up don't know how to use Lemmy. I feel like I need to relearn how to ride a bike.
Set feed to All. Scroll. See interesting topic you want to see more, subscribe to community. Interested in specific topic? Search for community in communities page. Once you gather enough subscriptions, set feed to subscribed. Scroll.
Thanks
In communities page also set to All so you can see everything, not just your local ones.
I've been here for a bit more than a week now and my biggest advice and is to take it as it is. Take a deep breath, accept that this is Lemmy and not something else, and that you're feeling it out. This is not relearning a bike, this is getting in a peddle boat for the first time. Similar, yes, but also it's own thing.
Yeah it's different, you'll burn in pretty quick though, just have to get used stuff being spread across a bunch of instances. It feels pretty natural after using it a while. The designers try to make it easy. It's kind of like email where each community has two parts to its name.
ok, so i have been here for like a whole hour now so i'm a pro! Jk I still don't get a lot of it but I did find this cool map that shows you large communities! https://lemmymap.feddit.de/
Also check out lemmyverse.net
Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks.
Basically think of discord servers that host subreddits. Instead of r/, the new r/ includes the domain name, kinda like a discord server. The new r/ is subredditName@ServerName
So if you wanted to search for say, r/furry, you'd type furry@pawb.social.
Furry is the subreddit, pawb.social is where it is hosted. Over time lemmy will improve and servers will coalesce subreddits like planets around newly formed stars.
Yeah, used reddit through Rif for ages. The lemmy connect app thing is just familiar enough for all the unfamiliar bits to stick out. Looking forward to learning though.
This video really helped me
https://youtu.be/K8fBSrhHrE8
Also this search page which is mentioned in the above video
https://browse.feddit.de/
I am in the same boat. Took me about two days to find a group to sign up with. I guess things have been getting busy here with all of us refugees.
Hey all, giving lemmy a try since RIF is gone
This is also my first post, feel like crying. Heard about Lenny 3 hours ago, came to this instance after consideration.
I'm glad this was made as an Alternative to the R#&dit
Legit, it's better here despite the rough edges of an early stage of development. The very thing that makes there be a learning curve filters out the most annoying users, and the culture is fairly anti-asshole overall, so there's less toxicity overall. Not saying it's perfect, no human endeavor can be. But it's got the better aspects of reddit with a reduction in the worst parts.
It's getting better fast, the 0.18.1 Lemmy update coming up is going to be a huge improvement for desktop browser (I'm on an instance running the release candidate and it's brilliant). That should trickle down to better mobile performance as well.
It was weird using Reddit Is Fun like I always do then it just suddenly stopped.
I can't create a community. I click the button and nothing happens. Any idea why? I'm trying to recreate a community from Reddit that really helped me when I was in a dark place.
I didn’t know they stopped today I though it was yesterday. Awe fuck r.i.p. Apollo. I hope the dev makes an app for lemmy. Fuck Reddit now.
Wefefe is a great Lemmy app. You can even export Apollo settings to it.
(it's actually wefwef)
Yep, wefwef is the best!
The Apollo dev has made it pretty clear he won't be doing a Fediverse app. But there's several alternatives for Lemmy and more coming.
I never used Apollo so can only go on anecdotal evidence but I've heard from a few people that WefWef is the most "Apollo-like" way to browse Lemmy atm.
Nice to have a new place to hang my virtual coat and peer into the endless void of the internet.
oddly boost still works for me right now
That's great, i love Boost's minimalistic design.
Yes!
Relay seems to still be working for me. Also, my personal shreddit app is still working.
I suspect reddit are leaving them operational so reddit can bill them at the end of the month.
Slide refugee that has been here for a few weeks. I like it here!
Wow, I wasn't the only Slide user! What client have you settled on?
Jerboa, for now. Signed up for Boost for lemmy and waiting to hear more news on Slide (which is coming to lemmy, since it was FOSS.) :)
Fwiw, I was a long time slide user before at some point I switched to Boost, as it was similar but a little sleeker in my opinion. And the Boost developer has announced a Lemmy-Version is coming, so I'm waiting for that now!
Not who you replied to, but I’m using wefwef! It’s got the occasional bugs (like right now my on screen keyboard won’t come up so I’m having to type this is to my notes app and then copy and paste the response here, but yesterday I wasn’t having any issues. Seems like the dev is pushing updates quickly. Looking forward to Slide for Lemmy!
Thank you for your warm welcome.
I never used a reddit ap, nor have I moderated, but I've watched the happenings and been incredulous at Huffman's (and subsequently Reddit's) behavior.
no more baconreader. trying out different Android apps for Lemmy. so far I'm liking "connect". curious though... can I add my mastodon account to my Lemmy feed? #stupidquestion ?
You can search and find Mastodon accounts from here, bit it doesn't seem to actually pull in posts and there's no way to follow anything afaik. You can follow Lemmy communities (and post to them) from Mastodon, but the interface isn't great and it's kinda spammy.
Technically everything talks to everything else, it's just a question of implementation of features and a decent UI for seeing content from other software that may be in different formats. Exciting to see where that aspect of the Fediverse ends up!
Hopefully the apps improve their usability soon
I've heard you can add mastodon tags to follow, not sure about accounts.
I think it's possible, just gotta open up that user through your imstance. I know how to do it with KBin, but not Mastodon.
Connect dev here. Glad you're liking things! Better support for Mastodon is on the roadmap!
It has become muscle memory for me to open the app. My phone seems so empty now.
Same. Hopefully a good Lemmy app can take the old place Reddit is Fun had
I'm using connect. Is there something better? Doesn't seem terrible so far.
Sync is on its way. Connect seems like a good alternative for now though.
I'm enjoying wefwef (name sucks though)
I've been bouncing between Connect and Jerboa. haven't quite decided which I like more yet. Connect has a better feel to me, but so far Jerboa has been vastly more reliable in my experience (Connect sometimes loads for a long time, and has crashed on me a few times).
Just gotta put a new app in its place!
actually yes, put the wefwef app there
Sync is coming
That's what brought me here! I'll miss RIF, but I think it's time to get used to something new. I appreciate how welcoming everyone seems!
9 years and 33k Karma. Unfortunately it ends today.
Hello Lemmy. Guess this is where I'll go from now on.
Had 200k+ karma on my main account and 30k+ on several other accounts (adult account, etc.). I don't think Huffman or Reddit know what they're doing. Anyway, hello Lemmy!!!
Same here with years but less than 1k in Karma.
Oh I think I see myself on that!
What is the scale of the y axis?
Probably apes per metre squared in e+4.
Man, graphs are so much more fun when you get to decide the axes yourself. <3
Parsecs?
It's amount of requests. The top of the scale is a 6-figure number.
Cheese sticks consumed
Just here to say hello to all the refugees! ✋🏼
Glad to see Boost for Lemmy will be coming
You have my axe! Ex digg/reddit here so this just feels like dejavu. Just trying to find an iOS/Mac app I’m happy with, so far mlem does pretty good!
I was interested to see what the rush was going to be like when Reddit mobile apps shut down. Looks like it might be pretty significant. Is this bigger than the blackout rush?
We'll soon find out based on how many times we have to copy paste an explanation of how community search works to confused new Lemmings 😄
Wefwef on iOS is amazing. This graph is really uplifting (pun intended). Let’s go fediverse! Fuck Reddit and the greedy CEOs.
Are this active users? (Commenting/posting) or just traffic?
I ask as I spent time in different servers looking for one I liked before making an account, so it took a while before I became an 'active user'
We are still going on infinity.
I'm really not ready. My Connect for Lemmy app is renamed to Lemmy is fun and is using the rif icon, it's hard to let go.
Whatever gets you through these trying times!
I believe certain apps that specialize in accessibility options are except in some way. No clue how that is determined though.
I'm just glad I found a server that allowed me to register. Been trying for weeks. Lemmy.ml is closed for registration. Lemmy.world just spins when you hit the register button. Another instance just said my registration was pending.
I just joined today and could use some assistance finding communities that I'd fit into. I'm into Cybersecurity and all matters of computing. If anyone has a suggestion please reply and thanks for having me :)
Came over a few days ago, and the infrastructure is so much better in concept than Reddit ever was.
Hello, my first comment here. How do I save images? (I’m using wefwef app for ios btw)
Lemmy is the Future! :D
Hello World! Finally able to make an account. Please be gentle with me while I work this strange place out.
Welcome
I love this so much. More people means more comments which means more intelligence/non-sense for me to read.
Please help, everyone in this community won't stop hitting me and no one will tell me where the refreshments are! I just wanted to find some amusing anecdotes for casual conversations!
Lol this must be why I'm getting so many errors and rate limits. Welcome to the club y'all!
Coming here from Sync. Can't wait for Sync for Lemmy to arrive!
Where is this graph located?
god damn haha.
Yup. I already used connect for lemmy for a few days. Today was the day it took bacon reader's spot on my home screen. Still going to check out other apps, but this is pretty cool already.
Hi there! What are some good subs for anyone trying to stay away from nsfw?
you can literally turn of nsfw when you make your sign in on a lemmy server.
Yeah there's a checkbox for it under profile settings. There's a ton of great communities, I've subscribed to around 40. Once you get a good set of communities can just set your default to "Subscribed" in profile settings. That will be your front page. You don't really want to use "Local" because it may not be very active. "All" has a lot of stuff in it you may not want to see. There's a few communities where I don't ever want to see their content. See lemmyverse.net for community info. There's a lot of good communities on kbin as well (you can access those from Lemmy and vice versa).
What app is most like Bacon Reader? I'm on Connect but feeling a little lukewarm so far
That's your best bet at the moment. Liftoff was another decent option but latest update doesn't see the lemm.ee instance for some reason. Things will get better on the app front in a month or 2 when Boost and Sync go live.
I'm on the Thunder train. Most like Sync.
Guilty
I want to create a community for my local city but when I click the button after entering the name, description, logo, etc. Nothing happens. Do I need to do something first?
Does it already exist on your instance? I think it needs to be lowercase too.
Make sure you have a language selected, that's been catching up a lot of people. Otherwise my best guess is it might just be bogged down by new users and other people creating new communities.
Hey! Unfortunately, the errors on community creation are not currently properly displayed in the frontend. What name are you trying to create the community with?
The most common reason for failure is simply the community name already being in use.
Hmm, I did a search for it again upper and lower case and it didn't return a result. I'll keep playing around and see how I get on, thanks!
Just checking - are you definitely trying to create the community with a lowercase name?
I checked my favorite app, boost, and it was still working. But I also saw that boost for Lemmy is happening, and now I'm mega pumped
Joined yesterday, figured I’d get myself settled here before the shutdown
Just had my last dose of reddit, I'm all in on Lemmy now.
So far I'm enjoying Connect app for Lemmy.
I just deleted my main account, my alt account, my novelty account, and my porn account.
Yep, heard about Lemmy for the first time today. Happy to be here!
Using RedditRefresh to delete my Reddit post history :)
Hello all!
Aw yeeeeeah we in here!
Hello from Reddit
Is there a reddit to lemmy faq / 101 I can read to understand what this is all about? Thanks from reddit oldie!!!
Just deleted my Reddit account of 7 years! Happy to be a part of a better community
I too am a refugee!
Ok, so I hope this isn’t the 15 millionth time this is asked, but I just came from Apollo and want to know where can I find a good resource to understand how the fediverse works?
https://imgur.io/a/uyoYySYI found this quite useful to understand how all this works
Thank you. That was a really good ELI5 of the fediverse.
Thanks! That filled in some blanks for me!
RIF refugee checking in. Sad too see that app go, but glad to be here.
You love to see it.

Just deleted my Reddit account and am happy to be here!
How do I create communities? It asks for a format but idk what format it wants
Glad to be apart of the wave of change
Same. Now an active user!
So sad to see so many of the 3rd party apps i used throughout the years die. RiF, Sync, Baconreader, and my latest for the past couple years Apollo. But have to say, Lemmy and WefWef are definitely scratching the itch. Glad to be here!
Obligatory fuck u/spez.
I am so ready for something new. There will be growing pains but I’m confident that Lemmy will be the next big thing.
Posting from wefefef and it’s already a great experience.
"Migrants" is fine. "Refugees" makes light of people in our community who are actually suffering the extreme hardship of being forced from their home with nothing.
