Celebrated my 40th today and first time rin kumain sa labas for my birthday in a long while. Usually prefer an understated festivity and have food delivered at home, but this one I thought was worth going out. I cleanly forgot that Christmas rush nga pala araw ko, so had to put up with really bad traffic.
Belated happy birthday. You sound younger than 40. Haha. Everyday na yung Christmas rush, buti you were able to celebrate then.
The only time I feel 40 is when kneeling or making sudden movements. Tried to teach my kid how to jump from the floor to the bed in a standing position the other day and almost tweaked my back in the process, lmao. I was able to do that easily 5, 10 years ago.

Get well as soon as you can! Kahit mild, nakaka disorient talaga ang loss of smell and taste. Then nung ako tinamaan last May, almost 40° C inabot ng lagnat. Hope you can also recover in a week or sooner :-)

I can't shake off this nagging feeling that these strong quakes hitting the Philippines with increasing regularity in the past few years are precursors to something huge that's about to occur, like the pressure is looking for a weak spot to unleash mayhem. I fear it would be an earthquake higher than magnitude 8, that it could even reach magnitude 9, in which case it's going to be very bad. I hope not but it almost feels like a premonition, idk... Maybe I'm just too worried but then again, the signs are pointing there.

Grabe sa kabila yung mga upvoted comments on jeepney modernization. Poverty porn daw or paawa effect yung argument against it when the OP literally said on the title he's for modernization and that the implementation has to be realistic. Tbf, yung analogy na quoted is laughingly bad, but it's not hard to see the point being made.
Furthermore, a comment saying that arbitrarily copying public transport fixes from other countries and applying it to Metro Manila won't work is getting downvoted. Pakita daw ng studies na it won't work, lol. The onus of proof lies on those saying it will work, hindi sa nagsasabi na it won't. It's common sense to assume that what works elsewhere won't work everywhere, although the guy touched partly on why he thinks so.
I did notice that there were a lot more people who mock things as "anti-poor." There were only specific people who did it before, but it seems to becoming more popular in r/ph.

For all of r/PH's annoyances and faults, it's still the place that shaped much of my present politics and personal outlook. And to see it devolve into that kind of DDS-ish circlejerking makes me wish I wasn't putting down the 2020-22 posters much, lol.
Despite his allegiance to the NPA, grandenko was one of the more articulate posters on why being pro-poor is good. His absence seems to have allowed the anti-poor people to become more popular.
It's been a while but I do have vague recollections of the Absalon murder since I was vocally against it, however I don't recall gradenko "defending" the NPA. He was only stating that it wasn't in violation of the land mine treaty being that it was a radio detonated IED.
Then again, I'm not privy to all of his posts and he might have sworn support to the NPA or outright defended them that I wasn't aware of. But from the many posts I've read of him (both in Reddit and the SomethingAwful Forums), my take is that he's mostly your typical left-leaning individual that wouldn't categorically shun extremists because underneath all the violence and mafioso tactics of the NPA, they have similar ideologies and "turning against" each other would be in the best interests of the capitalists they're all banding against.
I've been here long enough to understand that politics is complicated and a spectrum. I've even come to begrudgingly "respect" and comprehend the minds of DDS and Marcos loyalists even though I detest them.

He actually ignored all of my attempts to join Lemmy so he's either aware of how it would look like if he joined a community that has a "rep" for being an alleged tankie news aggregation forum or he just doesn't want to. He's not the only mod that didn't move here anyway, lol. The few mods that did either don't post anymore or do it semi-regularly.

Edit: Just to add to this: "self-defense" stuff (martial arts, taser) gives you a false sense of security and confidence. It's primary purpose is that when the only option is to fight, you have something to do/use. Hindi ibig sabihin na when some fool decides to show his dick, talks trash, or asks for your wallet, your first inclination is to do a roundhouse kick. The first, second, and third option is your safety. Kung pwede mo wag pansinin or ibigay wallet mo, that's what you do. If death is probable (hindi pa kontento sa wallet or an actual rape attempt), that's when you resort to the pepper sprays, taser, and small joint manipulation.
Ehh...looking at the thread, a lot of the top replies pointed out that it would be a bad idea. Top reply even says just to shout out that someone is showing their junk and the OP even replies to those stating it's a bad idea thanking them for letting her know. A lot of other replies are only pointing out the disgusting behavior of the exhibitionist. Granted, there are a lot of people who support it without knowing it's a bad idea, but I still feel you're misrepresenting what's happening over there.
When I first posted this, there were several replies on it (barely an hour in), most of it telling the OP to buy the pepper spray. The replies you mentioned didn't show up until after I already shared it (they're tagged blue when I went back today).
Sure, the succeeding replies eventually gave correct info, but giving bad advice on a "what should I do" thread (especially when it's the initial ones) is terrible/harmful.
Point still stands though that "self defense" on a guy passively showing his dick (that OP claims she was already able to deal with verbally) is just being vindictive and Sonny Parsons level of stupidity.
