FCC votes to ban all Chinese labs from certifying electronics sold in the US due to national security concerns — ruling would affect 75 percent of US-bound devices
1mon 16d ago in technology from www.tomshardware.comI'm kind of out of the loop on the more intricate roles of the heritage foundation, but what benefit is it to them to destroy the US economy or US as a whole?

Their not sending there best
2mon 6d ago in politicalmemes@lemmy.ca from media.piefed.socialFor a corporation there is literally no other definition of success unless it's financial. And if they are presented with a choice to make money or do the "right" thing they are legally obligated to choose money because share holder value takes priority
Yes. Netflix isn't buying it because they believe it's good. It's always business and it's good business (at least it was) to be involved in maga money. Look at Melania movie. Doesn't make sense at all to exist.
Thoughts?
2mon 19d ago in politicalmemes from piefed.cdn.blahaj.zoneI pay $3-4k more in taxes when I file with my wife. I get $2k per kid as a deduction. Married costs me. I get a little back for kids. But $2k is one month of daycare per child.
So... No. No special treatment. I don't get more sick days when my kids are sick. I don't get less work because I have children. I don't get easier projects because I'm a father. Whatever special treatment you think we parents are getting is delusional.
Buying a new car has become unaffordable for a growing number of Americans. The auto industry is worried
3mon 12d ago in fuckcars from www.nytimes.comNah. There's way too many literate people, and information is easy to access. This isn't going to be a dark age dystopia. It'll be closer to corporate owned life.

xkcd #3211: Amperage
3mon 23d ago in xkcd from imgs.xkcd.comWell for starters most residential outlets are rated for 15 amps. You don't need to run a lot of stuff on that outlet, a vacuum and a space heater is most likely enough for the outlet to overheat. Toss in an extension cord and another appliance and the outlet is going to melt. And since you're only pulling like 25 amps once the short happens when the live parts touch each other the arc explosion would be spectacular. Since you're on a 500 amp switch gear breaker with selective coordination set in a way that not only is the outlet done, but the wiring I'm assuming is not ran to the outlet in 600kcm copper, so all the wiring from the outlet to the breaker is also going up in vapor. By the time the breaker trips your house just went through a neat fireworks show and it's ablaze.
