When i type in the commands, this is the outcome. It's pointing to some list. But where is this list existing ? I mean, which part of my system ?
12h 28m ago in explainlikeimfive from retrofed.comI am not sure I have understood your question, but I will try to answer anyway.
Your console window is in a certain directory. This is like if you open your file browser and go to a certain directory (folder).
You typed "pwd", asking it to print the current working directory (where you are). It told you that you are in your Home folder.
Then you asked it to list out what is in that directory. It gave you a list. Those blue ones ending in / are directories inside your home folder. The white ones are files in your home folder. Is that the list you are referring to?
If you open a file browser and go to your home directory, you would see those files and folders there (assuming the system you are on has a GUI and file browser).
Does that answer your question?
Who is using my file?
1d 11h ago in linuxmemes from lemmy.mlAh that makes sense. I had considered it might be a server but you mentioned a Konsole tab so my mind decided it must have been local machine.
Crazy it took 2 days to restart the server!
Could you have restarted to allow the OS to clean it up?

2d 12h ago in politics@lemmy.nz from www.rnz.co.nzThe US president's pension apparently came about after Truman left office and fell into financial difficulty.
According to that article, it seems pretty rare around the rest of the world.
I guess it comes down to 1. What is it trying to achieve? and 2. Does it achieve it, or meaningfully move things towards that goal?
And to be honest, I don't think I've found any info to answer either of those questions 🤷
I wish I could get a job that kept giving me perks after I’d left/been sacked
I don't know what they get, and I'm sure I'd be upset if I did know so I'm not looking it up.
With that said, a job like Prime Minister is a role you work your whole life for (not the current PM, but a normal one) and then you get 3, 6 years, maybe 9 in the role then you are out forever. Your career is over. The only way to keep having a job is to go be a consultant or give some talks. If you're left wing maybe you can do a Helen Clark or Jacinda Ardern and get paid to work towards a better world. If you're right wing you've already given up that path so all you can do is go work for one of your lobbyists.
I guess the idea is to give politicians an alternative to selling out?
Why doesn't Lemmy/Piedfed use ALT tags as much as Mastodon?
2d 17h ago in asklemmyI try really hard to always add alt text! Maybe this is something the Lemmy software/apps need to support more, e.g. prompt the user if no alt text is provided.
Just checked, and Mastodon provides a little warning to tell you to add alt text:

It's probably not even clear to most Lemmy users that the [] for images in markdown are where you put the alt text.

5d 20h ago in newzealand@lemmy.nzThis weekend I got a Luanti server running (used to be called Minetest), with the Mineclonia game running. It's basically minecraft with out the Microsoft bullshit. Then I got all three kids in and working together in creative mode building a big house.
Just as good as Minecraft I reckon. Plus I put in a furniture mod for cooler insides of the house, and a helicopter mod for good measure.
Help us get a new LemmyNZ logo!
7d 20h ago in support@lemmy.nzI wasn’t sure if there was ever a large version used anywhere.
The think about a platform as open as Lemmy, is you can never be sure, because anyone can make an app. There are all the different website versions you can use to access Lemmy, of which we host 6 other than the default one (7 total), but others could also be running their own web apps.
Then there are all the mobile apps, of which there are at least 13 across Android and iOS if you only count those still being updated.
I had a quick look across the web apps we host and a few mobile apps I had on my phone, and the logo for the instance seems to only show in that small format across everything I checked. Community icons are often larger, but I couldn't find any apps showing the instance logo in a large format.
Ah I see it now! I thought it was a chicken comb and wattle...
Nice! Come up with all the ones you want and we can hold a vote on which are people's favourites!
Since we're posting art, I'd better throw own my attempt from a few weeks back:

Ok not very professional but it was one of the first times I've used inkscape. I was going for a lemming/kiwi hybrid.
We're now running Lemmy 0.19.19
