I feel like OP is trying to use science to justify the current militarized borders and state appointed violence against the people who cross them. It's a terrible comparison because natural territory boundaries are nothing like that. No creature in the animal kingdom has crap like I.C.E. and Border Patrol.

It's not really that weird, root beer used to be made using sassafras bark and yeah that's toxic in large amounts too.

Also fun fact, you can eat the inner bark of most pine trees, particularly white pines. It doesn't taste great but it could easily be a source of food in an emergency.

That would raise the sea level almost as fast, and probably more than if the polar ice caps just melted on their own. Also didn't it come from a comet? Last I checked comet ice isn't the cleanest ice, it's full of fun stuff like ammonia, cyanide, and formaldehyde.
