25d 1h ago in flippanarchy@lemmy.dbzer0.com from lemmy.dbzer0.comYes, true. I don't support Billionaires or the idea that different people in different jobs don't work hard in their own way, or that management should make so much more money than everyone else. I just think some people should get gross pay, or danger pay, etc. I've had rough days at work but I've never had to insert a catheter or wipe a patient's ass.
Some systems consider receiving the education as on par with performing the job it prepares you for. I.E. you get paid to attend school and it doesn't work out like you have to put your life on hold until school is finished.
Personally, I think some people's work is worth more than other people's work. If you're job involves raw sewage for example, I think you should earn a premium. Or if you're job puts the stress of life and death in your hands. Cardiac surgeons have way more stressful days at work than I do.
‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ Gets Divided First Reactions, From a ‘Thrilling Adventure’ to ‘One of the Weakest Star Wars Movies’ and a ‘Snooze Fest’
1mon 3d ago in star_wars from variety.comFrankly the movie could have been doubled in length and split into 4 episodes of the show but I'm not sure that the powers that be would have bothered to make those episodes as quality as they made this movie.
I wasn't super impressed with the show but the movie was nice. Better than Solo, not as good as Rogue One. As people have pointed out, it can come across like 2 episodes of the show back to back but the writing and execution of the movie is way better than any episodes on the show. My chief complaints are that Nal Hutta and the Hutts decadent crime lord lifestyle could have received a little more screen time since it hasn't been (to my knowledge) depicted on screen yet and the Rotta plot line could have been fleshed out a little more but the movie was already at 2 hours and 12 minutes. Not a very "deep" movie, action heavy and plot light, it's no Andor and lacks the subtexts of the prequels but it's in many ways more fun to watch than episodes 1-3.

4mon 11d ago in memes@lemmy.ml from lemmy.mlThe word imperialism is derived from the Latin word imperium,[8] which means 'to command', 'to be sovereign', or 'to rule'.[9] It was coined in the 19th century to describe Napoleon III's attempts to gain political support by invasion.[10][11] The term was applied to the British Empire during the 1870s; by the 1880s it had acquired a positive connotation in the West.[12] By the end of the 19th century, the term was used to describe the behavior of empires at all times and places.[13] Hannah Arendt and Joseph Schumpeter defined imperialism as expansion for the sake of expansion.[14]
Hobson, and in 1917, Lenin, attempted to redefine imperialism as the "highest stage of capitalism", as firms exported capital to dominate economically rather than territorially.[15]
