Conservatism considered as a movement of bitter rubes

6d 2h ago in conservatism@piefed.social from pluralistic.net

It depends on what you consider conservatism. At its core, it means to conserve the values and traditions of a nation or people and, if applicable, a country. Most of the time, as it is understood, it means the ways we have done it and is often, but not always, tied to religion. If we consider that, the people you listed would be considered reactionaries, not necessarily conservatives. This is why we can, for example, have Leftist Conservatives. But if we simply consider conservatism as whatever people say they want to conserve or as a reactionary thing, the same desire to conserve can bind these groups to what many people may consider conservative.

P.S. Sorry for the late response. My finals are soon on the 15th and I have swamped in schoolwork.

Fair enough. I am just listing it for those who do care. Proton's services are legitimately very good.

The Attacks on Graham Platner Are Politically Motivated

9d 12h ago in politics from jacobin.com

And what is to stop actual Nazis from claiming they 'were unaware'? I am very willing to vote Democrat, but it just seems dodgy to me. People like Angus King, Joe Manchin, John Fetterman, Mark Kelly, Gary Peters, Barack Obama in his first term, and the likes (this is ignoring candidates of other parties I would vote for if they ran, which is many)... but this just rubs me the wrong way. That being said, I do not have the option to vote for him anyways, so it does not matter for me. Last time... I literally voted 40/10/40/10 on my local and federal ballot combined (Democrat, Green, GOP, and Libertarian). It is because I look into what the specific candidate that is running for office has done, has said, their plans, and if they have proven they have changed. When choosing your leaders, looking out for deception matters quite a lot. Reasonably, why should I vote for someone who has ANY Nazi tattoo on him, REGARDLESS of his excuses? It is why I went from liking Elon Musk pre-2025 to not fully trusting him post-2025 outside of technology when he did the Nazi salute ranting about how his 'heart goes out to you' and 'civilisation', even though I think his inventions are great. I cannot reasonably support people who do stuff like that. So again, I ask you, what is proving he is being honest when he claims he 'was unaware' it was a Nazi tattoo? Why should I bet on his honesty about not being a neo-Nazi when I could potentially support a different Democrat candidate with less baggage?

Yeah... the guy has a Nazi tattoo. I will not support someone like that. I do not care if he says he 'has changed'. Politicians lie all of the time. What is up with the party recently? First Graham Platner and then Maureen Galindo? Both OPENLY either has Nazi symbolatry or says to throw people in camps en masse to castrate them. EVEN PEOPLE LIKE AOC, Hakeem Jeffries, Suzan DelBene, Josh Gottheimer, Jared Moskowitz, and John Fetterman ALL CONDEMNED her and Brad Schneider, Jake Auchincloss, Cory Booker, and Janet Mills condemned him! Stop. Embracing. Nazi. Candidates. You KNOW it is bad when some of the most prominent Democratic Party leaders are condemning them and saying their rhetorics are unacceptable. If you get mad at the right for remarks that are less blatant than this over stuff like this where it is somewhat expected, you should be OUTRAGED that people this blatant are getting support in the party that is supposed to be better than this. It should not be a partisan issue to say DO NOT SYMPATHISE WITH NAZIS. What happened to 'once a Nazi, always a Nazi'?

Edited for grammar.

I Am Looking For Technological Help

I am sick of hearing about rigged elections tbh. I heard it in the 2000s, in the 2010s, and the 2020s. It is always something! If the elections were rigged at scale, the opposing parties would not keep cycling and winning. Of course, gerrymandering is an issue and can throw off elections, but a state can only gerrymander so much if the population just abruptly flips. Also, WHAT HAPPENED TO RESPECTABLE CANDIDATES LIKE JFK AND THEODORE ROOSEVELT?! WHY do we keep voting for people like this?! Bruh. Something in the system needs to change.

GOP knows it can’t win a fair election

10d 15h ago in politics from www.nola.com

Oh come on now... you cannot say that! Or the fact that people claimed the Bush, Obama, Obama, Trump, Biden, and Trump elections were rigged since the 2000s! Just because the candidate we did not want to win won does not mean we should not accept it when the opposition wins.

Seriously though, gerrymandering is a real issue across the states and incumbent parties often gerrymanders to keep the opposition of power. In a way, this is election rigging, but until we amend the constitution, this cannot be fixed. Luckily... if enough of us flips in one election cycle, they cannot gerrymander fast enough to stop actual fair elections. This is the reason I am an Independent voter.

Even though I could not vote, I supported GOP President Bush in the first half of the 2000s and only stopped supporting him due to the Patriot Act, Democrat President Obama in the second half of the 2000s and the first half of the 2010s and only stopped supporting him due to him lifting the sanctions on tyrannical regimes (although, the ACA is a good thing), the GOP President Trump in the second half of the 2010s mostly because I did not like the fact Hillary said she would continue Obama's foreign policy, and the Democrat President Biden in the first half of the 2020s and stopped supporting him due to the botched withdrawl at Afghanistan that gave terrorists American weapons and got our soldiers and military dogs killed. Then in 2024 when I could finally vote, I supported Constitution Party Candidate Terry because Trump was mid, I did not like that the Democrat Party pulled a fast one and forced Biden out when he won the primaries for Kamala without a new primary, I did not like the Libertarian Party Candidate Oliver due to his stances, and I did not like the 'Vaccines causes Autism!' Independent Party Candidate RFK Jr. as that is stupid. I have ZERO party loyalty. I am not a partisan voter. If people are hostile to me, it only pushes me away from their candidate and party. Same with if they do stupid stuff.

Android 17 sucks. So I put Linux on a phone.

Tbh, Linux on a phone sucks. I am fine with Android. Custom ROMs are good enough for me. I value being able to use most Android games and software. Maybe in the FAR FUTURE I would if Linux on phones improved, but not any time soon.
