How can I block websites?
5d 4h ago in linux@lemmy.mlIf redirecting with /etc/hosts isn't enough, you could set up a cron job (I guess as root?) to re-copy a hosts file back to /etc/hosts every half hour or something. That way even if you do manually change /etc/hosts for an quick peak of an illicit website, it'll go back to being blocked in a short amount of time. This'll add a bit of the "pain in the ass" factor.
Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 Called Revelation, Out Simultaneously Across All Platforms [Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC: Steam and Epic] [Spring 2027]

BC's Family Doctor Crisis Gets Even Worse
15d 16h ago in britishcolumbia@lemmy.ca from thetyee.caI was signed up for that doctor match thing for like 3 years before I gave up and started searching for clinics accepting patients. Luckily I finally got one that way.
Best longterm offline Linux friendly games? Give me your best!
15d 18h ago in linux_gaming@lemmy.mlDwarf Fortress is linux compatible, although I haven't played it in years its a colony builder that can get super in-depth. Its interface is a learning hurdle though.
You might like Conan Exiles, its a sandboxy survival game that just got updated recently with better graphics. I kind of feel its more a exploration game than a builder though. Hrm...
Grand Theft Auto V cheat service gets hacked, exposing thousands of gamers
15d 19h ago in pcgaming@lemmy.ca from techcrunch.comThats wild. You'd think it would be easy for companies to sue or shutdown those, but I guess not!
I didn't even know cheat "services" was a thing. Its kinda hard to feel bad for the victims though if they were cheaters.
Camping in B.C. this summer? Here are the places visitors have liked... and haven't
21d 3h ago in britishcolumbia@lemmy.ca from www.cbc.caI don't really camp much anymore, but I've always had great experiences camping at sites along forest service roads. Most of them (as far as I know) don't require reservations, which is nice.
Well, I have an idea
21d 7h ago in degoogle@lemmy.mlI think one of the problems is there isn't really any reliable way to know the date a website was made on, so you can't really filter on that. Its the search engines that keep that information in their indexes, so if you built a new database, it wouldn't have access to it.
I don't see why it wouldn't get spammed by SEO spammed websites and AI spammed websites. Maybe your wikipedia style moderation might help, but it does sound like a lot of work for people when AI can spam new websites faster than any human can review them.
I do think we really do need to rethink the internet though, because its starting to feel pretty useless.
I just want to get something off my chest.
22d 23h ago in canada@lemmy.caI relate man, the environmental doom stuff just makes everything feel so hopeless.
Google is always listening???
23d 16h ago in degoogle@lemmy.ml from lemmy.mlThanks! I don't trust my phone enough for banking anyway. I'll try this out in the next few weeks.
Edit: Erg, looks like my phone isn't supported by Graphene or Lineage... Oh well.
