What did your engagement ring cost, married/engaged people?

1y 28d ago in casualconversation@lemm.ee

About 60€ for the wedding bands. Bought them on Etsy, made of epoxied wood with some blue in it, handmade in Poland. I insisted in not buying expensive since my husband is prone to misplace things. I was right. Not even a year in, he lost his. I now keep mine in a box. We talked about replacing his, but it is not really important for us. And we kept removing them for bouldering, cooking and other activities. Our bond does not rely on a ring.

Let‘s hope he actually wins also, not just in the poles, that can mean nothing.

My doctors were never shocked, I suppose they‘ve seen many different situations. I did learn to tell them beforehand that these things happen to me, so they might take it in consideration. Bodies are so different, it is normal to react different to substances and foods. But with age we hopefully are more in tune with our bodies and start to learn how it works.

For me is a combo, caffeine, even from a cup or green tea, makes me have sleep issues, but the anesthesics at the dentist or in surgeries take more time than usual to take effect. They did give me once, before a hand surgery, a intravenous shot of something and I was instant drunk and started laughing. It was so very odd!

Why are Romanians abroad voting for far-right candidate Simion?

1y 1mon ago in europe@feddit.org from www.rfi.fr

Because many people are easy to be brainwashed with Facebook and Tik Tok and WhatsApp conspiracy theories. And they are also brainwashed in the churches (many people voted for Simion because he is a „man of God“. Such bullshit!). Even educated people. They just stop thinking for themselves. I know people are discontent with political parties, all over the world, there are no real politicians left nowadays, and if there are, they get eaten alive by the other scumbags. But that is no reason to look to Russia to help.

In the article, they are talking about difficult fitting in the societies where they emigrated to. My opinion is, as an immigrant as well, that one has to make the effort to integrate. You cannot expect for that to fall on the shoulders of the citizens where you emigrated. No society is perfect, and we have to accept that. And live where it bests suits us. But voting for anti-EU puppet will not help your life living abroad. You might get kicked out of the EU and be forced to get back to your country.

And EU does not make everything perfect, but one can get involved to force changes there. Not just complain in your WhatsApp group. Will it be better to live like they do in Russia? Become their friends and who knows, maybe in future be sent to fight a war for them? I don’t think so. People should start to think for themselves and not just listen blindly to their preachers.

EU should do something to stop the easy access to propaganda tools for the Russians and Chinese. I would be happy to see Facebook and Tik Tok be banned, they are just rotting people’s minds.

On The Death of Daydreaming

1y 1mon ago in simpleliving@lemm.ee from www.afterbabel.com

Thanks for the interesting read. It is a good reminder for me to practice more of my favourite passtime. I do fall many times into the grips of YouTube, but I find it happens more if I am inside the house. I don’t reach to it when I’m in nature or outside places. I always liked to daydream and imagine scenarios and hope for the future. But it is a treacherous habit if I do it before bed, since I can stay up for hours doing it. I have such a vivid imagination that movies usually do not appeal to me, I have them in my head and I can imagine whatever I want.

And I do remember so many moments of idleness when I was a child. For example being in my room on a sunny day and watching the dust particles dancing in the light rays of the sun coming in. It was so magical.

Nowadays, when sitting in a park, or in front of the window in a restaurant, I love watching people and imagining how their lives are. I could do it for hours.

Thank you for the reminder!

Is there an app to use on iPhones? I was thinking for a while to switch to it, but I don’t know what could I use for iPhone to access the emails.

So why keep men out of commenting? I mean, it is a public space, they can read it. I agree that they have to be respectful, as we also should, but supportive men are to be celebrated, not silenced.

Oh, I did not know we are women only. And how would we know the gender of the poster?
