broken usbc connector- is it repairable?

20h 23m ago in askelectronics@discuss.tchncs.de from feddit.org

You sure this is USB-C?

A USB-C port has 20 pins, two rows of 10.

Your image appears to only have two traces leading up to the ripped off pads. I would assume that perhaps there are vias to the other side of the board that aren’t visible due to lossy image quality, which would more closely match USB2 Mini or Micro B (4 Pins).

Ultimately, this is fixable with the right tools and skills. It looks like the main ground pads for mechanical support of the receptacle are still there. You would then need to expose parts of the trace on the PCB, solder jumper wires to the pins of the receptacle, and then solder those jumper wires to the corresponding trace.

The best “guide” is going to be watching a multitude of videos of how it’s done. Look up USB Port or Receptacle replcement.

Your supply requirements:

Fine tipped soldering iron

Solder

Flux

Thin enamel wire

Magnification (I prefer a microscope)

Fiberglass pencil or small blade (scalpel, x-acto, that sort of thing)

Tweezers

HOW MUSIC WORKS - Marcin (Official Video)

You don’t play guitar, do you?

I won’t deny that Marcin gives off a pretentious air and leans hard into complexity over songwriting / musical phrasing, but calling that level of coordination a “trick” is a bit reductive no? It’s not something anyone can do.

our second raptor lake cpu fail

We’ve had a handful of these come through. The warranty extension applies even to Tray/OEM CPUs so you might get some traction with Intel of the OEM is annoying about it.

Funny enough, even before this fiasco we had a year where we diagnosed a disproportionate number of Intel CPU failures on 10th and 11th gen systems. 4 or 5 RMAs when 80% of the gaming PCs we saw were AMD, and then there were only 1 or 2 AMD RMAs that year.

You need to be able to see that information specifically while hovering your cursor over a taskbar app? Seems oddly specific, my curiosity has me wondering why your cursor would need to sit in that specific location while referencing other information.

As someone else mentioned, you’ll need admin control of the system. I believe that, since Win11 25H2, there is no way to do this without third party software.

I’m pretty sure that DisplayFusion has that functionality.

WondHawk also has a plug-in to do that.

It's a "business model"

Oh, definitely. I was questioning whether or not the irony was actually deliberate, illustrating the end result of the fake money ouroboros

All kinds of weird going on with how the right hand is “holding” that module (while pinching another one behind it?)

Memory module is symmetrical.

No motherboard I’ve ever seen would have DIMM slots parallel to PCI slots, let alone that far from the CPU socket

Have a look at what would normally be the 24-Pin ATX connector - fewer pins, which is not unheard of in some proprietary cases, but the connector itself looks weird and garbled.

Ironic - it’s clearly GenAI

The question is whether or not it’d deliberately ironic, the hallucination machine can’t even properly hallucinate PC Hardware despite heaps of training data.

Bit ironic that the image is generative AI slop

… or is it?
