I feel like the best defence is to build at home. With drones playing such an important role, it opens the door for Canadians to innovate. This is where the need to rebuild so much of our military could end up being beneficial as the ways people make war are shifting dramatically.

I agree with this sentiment, governments do not represent the citizens but the capital of those nations. Which often times devolves to simply, what can you do for me?

To distance themselves would mean a metaphorical decapitation, which would severely limit their political power, and thats just not something they're willing to do. Kids grow up witnessing who gets away with it, so when those same kids get older and want to get away with it, they become cops, Republicans or priests, because they know those groups will protect them from accountability when/if they get caught. This issue has been compounding for multiple generations culminating in the running joke we see playing out today.

Unless the goal wasn't to win the war but sabotage that transit point while dropping sanctions on a certain nation so it could re-fill its war chest?

I don't like hearing our PM parrot US propaganda, and going directly against his speech in Davos.

I realize there might be political reasons for what he is doing, but the cynical side of me assumes this is more due to Israel lobbying our government for support.

The ability to enforce double standards based on political affiliation is a big feature of fascist governments.

After all this is the party that took advantage of misinformation flooding into the country during the pandemic, misinformation designed to have covid-19 kill as many Canadians as possible, they used that misinformation to leverage themselves into a political cult based around the same MAGA Christian nationalists principles.

Then they piggy back on the Christian communities collective narcissism to run a kleptocracy, funnelling off taxpayer money to themselves through various schemes and offices. Heck, we're paying the same group that runs Canada Proud to run ads in Ontario, and the Alberta taxpayers have been paying this group to run multiple campaigns with no bidding process for people in other provinces. I remember reading Postmedia outlets attacking Notely for spending 1.9 million dollars on ads in 2019, but I have not heard them even mention once that Smith has exploded that to more than 80 million dollars, and thats not even including the 60 million we give to the war room, that turns around and pays the same company to run even more ads.

Kinda drives me nuts that whenever a conservative government takes power in Canada they all start giving huge sums of money to the same media groups that Harper used for his Action Plan ads when he was PM. We paid for taxpayer funded TV ads against marijuana use that the Doctors Association of Canada had to come out and debunk.

Now this same company is running social media account across the country that are breaking election laws on a regular basis and using all this money to create new media groups like Juno and TruNorth, which they teamed up with Rebel to disrupt our federal debates during the last election. I have no idea how this shit is possibly legal, and that without diving into the work of one Ezra Levant.

Politicians in Alberta are the most opportunistic, greedy, unscrupulous business people I've ever met.

There is a power vacuum on the right, since both of Canada's right wing parties have abandoned right wing principles to chase Trumps tail. Which means the LPC can drift right, and there is no alternative for those on the left to vote for, while the CPC's media machine can gaslight enough moderates that if the LPC drifts left, they can make the CPC seem like good old fashioned common sense conservatives of 20 years ago.

It sucks.
