1d 20h ago in linux@lemmy.ml from aussie.zoneThanks for your reply. The term 'system service' let me search the right terms. ps & pgrep are not utilities im really familiar with, i'll read up on them, thanks.
Yeah, i uninstalled it months ago. several reboots. Thanks for the heads up re: system service. I ran systemctl --type=service --state=running and found the cheeky bugger running there! Have now removed the service, thanks so much!

why is the medical model so highly valued when it’s just a series of failed and incomplete models
I've seen people with a stroke lose complete loss of their arm & leg. Get thrombolysed then the next day their main symptom being pins and needles. Seems a pretty good reason to value it..
My conclusion is that society never stopped needing priests and witch doctors.
Hmm priests around my area aren't exactly know for healing people.
Pharmacists want prescription powers to take pressure off GPs, but not everyone agrees
8d 12h ago in australia@aussie.zone from www.sbs.com.auEasier opioid access is probably not a net positive.
I think this is a terrible idea. It blurs the lines between product and prescribers. I've been multiple times to a pharmacist that realistically should have sent me on my way with nothing.. but always had a recommended product.
Sure, for chronic conditions, perhaps give 6 month prescription that can be reviewed and dispenced 3 times by pharmacist.. but pharmacists are not the coordinated practitioner.
Engineer turns disposable vape pen into a working web server
9d 13h ago in technology from interestingengineering.comI'm curious who your sole downvoter was. Was it a potato producer that dislikes gaming ? Perhaps a lemon farmer who feels their fruit could run doom on 4k. Was it someone who purchased a $5000 dollar rig only to find out they could have bought a singular potato? I guess we'll never know
Vapes should never have existed? Smoking rates and nicotine addiction were finally going down... Then the good old invention of the vape brings it rocketing back again.
Garden friend or foe? Putting common 'pests' to the test
11d 13h ago in environment@aussie.zone from www.environment.sa.gov.auWhat sort of cooked article is this? Putting "common" pests to the test.. talks about fruit bats, spiders, possums.. how are these common pests? Perhaps snails, slugs, slaters, earwigs could be classified as slightly more common...
