It's not poor investors losing their savings

It's both. Trump has actively encouraged buy-in and credibly been accused of having first let key investors in on the ground floor, so the value skyrockets when it's announced, the insiders sell at substantial profit, and the MAGA marks see the bottom fall out of their "investment" shortly afterwards.

I'm not sympathetic with the victims, but it's still predatory.

We Always Existed, We Always Will

This is an established phenomenon in linguistics, called betacism! There are several languages that have gone from V to B or vice versa over time.

Pretty much all V sounds in modern "native" English words would have been B sounds in its Germanic predecessors.

Thanks! I did wonder whether it might be a noun that was a cognate of "cord" (as in rope, cable, string), but I don't speak a word of Portuguese.

According to the YouTube captions, the person in the first clip says, "Gente! Gente, acorda a corda, velho!", which is, "Guys! Guys, wake up the rope, man!"

The person in the second clip says, "Ai, meu Deus do ćeu!", which is apparently just, "Oh my God" -- going by tone, I wouldn't say the second person had noticed the issue, but it sounded like the first one did and was in disbelief.

It's gekkering time!

This is weirdly like a Rorschach test, except once your brain makes sense of it, it's difficult to see anything else.

I saw some kind of antler crown, which I assume means I'll be king of the forests in the future. You can all grovel now if you like.

Love petroglyphs

the Blue Mesa area in Petrified Forest National Park

This is in Arizona, USA, for context. It was carved near the now-ruins of Puerco Pueblo around the 13th Century by the Ancestral Puebloan Native Americans. The petroglyph was removed and is in the museum in the park's visitors center (or maybe in the Painted Desert Inn?) for protection.

[ TestFlight Update ] Mlem TestFlight Patch Notes 2026-06-09

It's virtually every time for me, so if I can help diagnose it somehow, feel free to contact me! Thanks.

I pushed a bug report through TestFlight a few months back, but I guess they're more useful directly logged as issues against the repository?

When editing a comment, the edit box would only show the first few lines, and I couldn't interact with it. After hitting the "select text" button for the parent comment and canceling that modal, the editor would immediately work as it should.

Edit: looks like I spoke too soon! I'm seeing the issue again now. Logged on GitHub.

Glad for the threading fixes, thanks! You also seem to have fixed the comment edit screen so it works right away without having to pop open the "select text" screen, which is nice to have back.

Yeah, the pillion passenger has their foot on the foot peg now, but it's previously been on the exhaust -- presumably until they felt the heat as it got a few millimeters from the sole of their foot after melting through the shoe.

If the pillion foot pegs weren't folded out when they started, and they've not been on the back of a motorcycle before, it might not have been obvious where to put their feet.
