Pentagon used Elon Musk’s Grok AI to fire missiles at Iran, official says
13h 2m ago in usa@lemmy.ml from www.independent.co.ukThe way many people in power have accepted sentence assembling software as a form of analytical intelligence is probably the deadliest tech “innovation” since leaded gasoline

2d 3h ago in me_irl from lemmy.caOnce you start recognizing JJ Grandville’s art you never stop seeing it all over the place. I played a weird indie game that used his animal doodles as characters and I always see them around.
It’s not a class thing really. You just go.
It’s like playing board games, it’s not a structured lesson like a musical instrument, it’s more of a group activity.
And if it doesn’t work out for you you can always try other stuff. If I understand correctly you think AI is melting your brain and actively want to do hobbies instead?
Lebanon is being ethnically cleansed right now
3d 9h ago in crazyfuckingvideos from reddthat.comI don’t know how this comment makes me feel because even people at the displacement shelters here in Lebanon are excited to watch the World Cup.
I feel like a lot of people, especially Americans who do not care for football, underestimate how universal this is. It’s much more honest of a distraction from the horrors of life than corpo pop culture
Edit: On second thought I know exactly how I feel. I think this is pretty condescending. The world is fucked. A hostile army is inside my country and I believe we are being pressured to formally allow them to occupy land so we don’t fuck up the peace deal that is being negotiated right now. We have zero agency over what happens in our fucking country, regardless of how democratic or feudal we are.
Let us at least enjoy the football. The Olympics and World Cup were frequently hosted by dictators, doesn’t minimize the feats people achieved or the fun of watching. Bread and circuses is some first world reductionism. People need bread. A bit of circuses is fun. Meeting up with friends and watching the games is always great, especially when you consider the only other thing to talk about is being fucked by war or fucked by work (if you think the economy is rough where you are, it’s probably not worse than here). If it’s at home FIFA isn’t getting any money out of us anyway.
Have you seen the new show? It's on Tubu. It's literally on Heebee. It's on Poodee with ads. It's literally on Dippy. You can probably find it on Weeno. Dude it's on Gumpy. It's a Pheebo original. It's on Poob. You can watch it on Poob. You can go to Poob and watch it. Log onto Poob right now. Go to Poob. Dive into Poob. You can Poob it. It's on Poob. Poob has it for you. Poob has it for you.
Posts about Fediverse interoperability are always a mess of different flavors of internet nerds who post in radically different formats clashing. It’s a glorious mess.
Personally I think micro blogging is an atrocious anti-discourse format but I also think anyone who writes the word “discourse” is automatically not worth listening to. So what do I know.

Getting back up to speed with writing my own code after a long time away? Scattered thoughts on how different the landscape looks now.
5d 15h ago in programming@programming.devThis is 100% about the personal side and not the technical stuff, yeah. Is the expectation on this com to mostly talk about technical issues and news?
I was thinking that someone might have been in a similar situation where they had to re-learn a lot of things, even basics, and that it would be of interest to me. I’m more than happy to go through the paces of a beginners’ guide but maybe someone will explicitly say “hey don’t do that, the pace will kill your enthusiasm, try doing this other thing”.
I’m right there with you on the noise not being drastically different from a few years ago, incorrect commenters in stack exchange are/were just as confidently wrong as slop bots. Maybe I should finally make an account on there.
The time for debugging thing is just about the difference between being a full time student who can butt heads against documentation and opaque compiler output and being someone who has to squeeze re-learning into much less time after a workday. I can and do have those nights but it’s not the same at all.
Redditors hate humor
5d 16h ago in memes@sopuli.xyz from lemmy.mlIt could be mildly funny if it was written in Hungarian. The translate button now being integrated into their UI might help.
Unfortunately they probably will just be banned over this
Evolution of Cellphones [Gudim]
6d 11h ago in comicstripsNot an abomination at all, there were a few of these. I still think the Nokia N95 was the pinnacle of gizmo gadget phones. It looks downright hilarious now but my god that was a thing of beauty in its day.
Boring black slabs are practical, sure, but has that practicality improved our lives that much?
AI detectors aren't reliable
8d 6h ago in StopTech@lemmy.today from lemmy.todayOh I’m really pissed about the OOP. Anyone know if it got sorted? This kind of shit will only get worse over time. My own English has always been a little mechanical and I have been accused of pasting machine output as my own writing by people who (I say this with full “humility”, I don’t think my writing is extra beautiful but those people think that about slop) can’t distinguish the two
During the 17th century Europeans constructed cool but unpractical weapons to use as diplomatic gifts.
8d 17h ago in historymemes@piefed.social from thelemmy.clubFrench words in English don’t always line up one to one.
As someone who primarily read in English I would whip out some of those in French class in school and my teacher once actually belly laughed at it. She understood what I was doing though, she didn’t think I was completely bad at French. Off the top of my head I can only think of portmanteau which is only used in English to mean two words mashed together, while in French it only has its original meaning (coat hanger)
How are we all doing? I'm very tired
