Key Zcash Updates
ZIP 32 Support: Added standard HD wallet support for Zcash cryptography.
Zcash Shielded App: Note that the separate Zcash Shielded account feature is supported on Ledger Nano S Plus, Stax, and Flex, but is not yet supported on the Ledger Nano X.
battlenet blocklist: seemingly full with 17 entries
1mon 4d ago in gaming@lemmy.zip from lemmy.zipNew Steam update shows four Steam Machine models, though we still don't have a release date
1mon 7d ago in steamdeck@sopuli.xyz from www.pcgamer.comnope can't it is just normal usbc 3.2 gen 2 (10gbit)
The 4 models could as well be:
-512gb storage
-2tb storage
-unit without storage but with ram
-unit without ram but with storage
So people who do have some sodimm ddr5 or storage spare, could buy these. Would make perfect sense during this memory shortage.
Steam Controller (2026)
1mon 11d ago in recalbox@lemmy.zip from lemmy.zipWell, recalbox runs on theraspberry pi. It can not run steamos or steam client. Even if it could, I need my main computer to process the games and stream it to the raspberry pi through moonlight/sunshine.
Good tip indeed, and yes I did try it during my initial testing (didn't mention it since I am not sure on SC 2026 it is actually implemented). Tried also other combinations of holding select for a long time, etc.
To no avail though. :) Recalbox simply won't detect the controller even though the dongle is getting recognized as "ID 28de:1304 Valve Software Steam Ctrl (USB)". The old one is recognized as "ID 28de:1142 Valve Software Wireless Steam Controller".

1mon 14d ago in recalbox@lemmy.zip from lemmy.zipHow do you prefer reading your Digitals?
1mon 14d ago in ebooks_management@lemmy.zip from lemmy.zipI mostly read comics and I like reading them on a tablet. Reading books and comics through the webinterface of my book management system (Komga) which is running on a local NAS. Since it accessible from any webbrowser, it is easily accessible.
Minor dislikes are the lack of some special options. -For example setting a permanent crop for all pages so it reads easily without white borders. -Or being able to read the top and bottom of a comic separately (for landscape reading), and still being able to scroll through it as if they are regular pages. -Color correct a book so it looks better on a specific device For such options however, I'm afraid a special software would be required. Which in turn comes with it's own negatives.
Change MTU
1mon 14d ago in recalbox@lemmy.zip from lemmy.zipHey welcome and thanks for chiming in.
I have to agree that most home users have no idea what MTU they are using, and it is typically going to be 1500 for their LAN. Their internet will be 1492. The internet is bandwidth limited anyway, it is best left alone. The LAN MTU however, most power users (even amateur ones) will make use of jumbo frames. Especially people who use backbones with greater than gigabit speeds (like myself). I believe Synology even ships their NAS systems with a default MTU of 9000.
If you want to test if jumbo frames are working between 2 nodes in your network, it is actually very easy to do. Assuming you have a 9000 packet size set:
ping <target ip> -f -l 8973
will return a "Packet needs to be fragmented but DF set." message
while
ping <target ip> -f -l 8972
will return a normal ping reply saying "bytes=8972 time<1ms TTL=64"
When you get a ping reply with such a forced packet size, you also immediately know that your backbone/switch supports the forwarding of jumbo frames.
The use of jumbo frames with Moonlight might just be enough to stress the cpu a little less and thus you might be able to up the streaming bandwidth somewhat. An estimation? Max 10% gain, something like that. But on a raspberry pi, for a single core decoding application, you take any gains you can get ;)
Finding the "right" ebook on e.g. Gutenberg
1mon 15d ago in ebooks_management@lemmy.zipI can not give you a specific answer regarding Gutenberg and Sherlock Holmes. However, this is my more general take on it, if you don't mind.
The usability often drops when users get more (too many) choices.
It makes me think of Blackberry vs New age phones. Blackberry had 1 calculator. It worked perfectly. It had 1 place where you could jot down your notes. It was all working perfectly. Then people needed/wanted appstores. So nowadays when you open an appstore to install an app (OS app is not good or not installed), you get overwhelmed and have to choose between 20 calculators, 20 notes apps, 20 flashlight apps.. . It is making people lose their time and patience with something that should just be very simple (and was very simple at one point).
I hope Gutenberg can indeed polish things up and make the user experience better. Facing somewhat similar issues compared to linux. Where at one point the user experience becomes very important, and steps should be taken to improve it.
