Remember when Boris Johnson was prime minister and we thought it was as ridiculous as a British government could get?

8mon 20d ago in movies@piefed.social from deadline.comI genuinely thought that film was supposed be, well not bad, but a selfish indulgence. Like we weren't supposed to like it, he just decided had the money and opportunity to make something that only appeals to him and we could watch it if we want. It's like he got the aux cable on a road trip and decided to put on industrial drone music.
Why don't smart watches use USB-C to recharge?
10mon 16d ago in technology from shkspr.mobiIt doesn't need all that. All the complexity is because of stuff that's been added to the spec. 500ma@5v will just work if all you only connect is + & -
As governments around the world are set to make the Internet more restrictive and privacy-invading, we need a solution
10mon 24d ago in fediverse from lemmy.dbzer0.comTribler has inbuilt onion routing. If I understand it correctly, tribler <-> tribler connections don't need exit nodes and it's fast enough to stream video

Labour suspends Diane Abbott for second time over racism comments
11mon 5d ago in uk_politics@feddit.uk from www.theguardian.comWhat she said is so obviously true that her comments biggest flaw is it's redundancy. She's talking about Tomiwa Owolade's words on racism in Britain. A copper isn't going to spot you from 50 yards away and stop you based on the fact that you're Irish or Jewish because they can't see that. Security isn't going to follow you around a shop and hurry you out the door because you're Irish or Jewish because they can't see that.
I hate identity politics and hierarchies of oppression and language pedantry and all that more than the next person. But when you pretend to not understand an argument which is so obvious and valid, it's hard to believe you're here with honest intent.
What do you all think about this?
11mon 7d ago in Mirror@50501.chat from r.50501.chatHe's right. It doesn't mean you hate foreigners to understand why bosses would prefer to hire someone with less rights and who needs less money to raise their family through remittances.

When you're not the only person watching a peertube video
11mon 10d ago in fedimemes@feddit.uk from feddit.ukThe underlying tech was designed with HD video conferencing in mind. It'll happily max out your connection. As long as the server has enough bandwidth to upload one stream and the average peer can handle uploading one stream it's theoretically infinitely scalable
I want PewDiePie to try peertube on his self hosting arc, if only to see what happens with thousands of simultaneous viewers.
