Does anybody actually work from 09:00 to 17:00

1mon 11h ago in nostupidquestions

I don't know anyone that has it that strict.

On shift work it is standard to get 6:00 - 14:00, 14:00 - 22:00 and 22:00 - 6:00. And most people I know that have office work usually have some flexible arrangement like you have to work 8h and have to be here for meetings 9:00 - 13:00, so some people arrive at 9 and leave at 5 or you can arrive at 6 and leave at 2...

Other jobs like teachers, doctors... have just completely different schedules each day.

Trying to capture wild yeast

1mon 9d ago in homebrewing@sopuli.xyz from discuss.tchncs.de

Yes it can be split somehow, but if you have to do lot of samples it can get quite long even at home.

I stored few strains of yeasts in fridge and when I had to reinoculate them on fresh plates to keep them alive for bit longer, I had work for few hours bit time sensitively split across 2 weeks.

Have a good time playing with that ;-)

Microbiology is fun but bit too time consuming, I like it but it's not for everyone.

Btw if you want to make your own agar plates I have good results with classic agar with wort, it has to be ~8°Bx and don't need any more nutrients added. I still have some left in jars that got through pressure cooker.

You probably mean this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qVrg5eRJVTA

And yes burning it as fuel is the most stupid way of using it. The message shouldn't be "We can't live without it" but "If it is soooo useful, why we just burn it?"

I am really interested how this will turn out! Let us know because I want to try it too maybe in few months if I will have a time and somebody to drink it with me afterwards.

I would look in to night trains that you can get with interrail. Just because you can have more time on the location and don't have to spend money on accomodation.

Otherwise it can be quite nice trip my friends did 14 days last year through Germany, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy and Austria, and were quite satisfied with the decision.

Minimal Tools and Spare Parts List?

1mon 22d ago in bikewrench

I looked up the bike and you shouldn't need that much tools for "everything". You should be mostly fine with chain whip and cassette tool for changing a cassette, headset wrench, crankset tool and maybe bearing wrenches for wheel bearings.

Most of the little tools like spoke wrench or chain splitter are included on larger multitools. I use some from Lezyne and works just fine even long term. And if you don't ride that much terrain tracks you don't need to worry that much about the suspension fork.

If I get it correctly you want to know 2 different things:

  1. How to service your bike at home - what tools to buy, what is needed to maintain...

  2. What tools to bring with you on bike ride.

    1. Is quite easy everything you want to maintain. I would start looking in to ParkTool YouTube channel where are the steps nicely explained with every tool you need so everyone can follow it. For me it is everything and I got tools for all my specific parts but it isn't true for most people and some things are better to leave on bikeshop (tools are expensive, you can badly mess it up...)

    2. This depends on your type of riding - you have to be able to at least limp back home. So at least tools to change the inner tube with spares and pump.

More specific answer - multitool, tire leavers, pump, hex wrench set, patch kit (for patching at home) and then if you want to do more specialised task think about the purchase of the tools or if it's ok for you to bring the bike to the shop.

Yes I watched it too but his version is made to just look like it, this one is whats your fantasy suggest is in it.

I like them both but for different reasons.

What's a good website builder?

1mon 26d ago in asklemmy

I also want to know this.

WordPress (and other solutions) is quite heavy for my needs and Squarespace seems like too much vendor lock in.

Other "website building" solutions like Hugo require too much knowledge in HTML which I would like to not touch at all.

Where are you planning to go this year?
