To make things even more fun, regex differs in subtly different ways, the regex that works in perl might not work in sed. There are two main dialects, BRE and ERE, and lots of tool specific additions. So I find myself wondering if grep is using extended regular expressions, or is that in egrep, or is egrep the standard grep nowadays? One time I saw Russ Cox use Acme, and I saw the real power of regex when used by someone intuitively. But I am no Russ Cox.

I used to translate things in Debian, but I stopped for this reason. It's making it harder for everyone. People in sweden don't know the swedish technical word for "routing", but everyone knows what a router is. (Trivia, the word is "dirigering".)

Whenever I think about magnets I remember this Feynman interview where someone asks him why magnets behave the way they do, and he says that to answer a "why"-question you need a foundation where something is agreed to be true, and it seems like for electromagnetic forces we end up in " because that's how the universe is apparently".

In all seriousness, how would one ask about this? Like just saying "Hey, you're trans right? Do you probably need head bad rn?" seems a bit creepy?

Introductions are fun, everyone is just nervously waiting for their turn and not listening to anyone else. No names or titles or whatever are remembered in big introductions. So either I just say "My name is <name> and I work with <task> at <location>" and I know that it's already forgotten.
