This week I finished the Lee Harden series of books and thus finished all of The Remaining books by DJ Molles.

My reading order was definitely screwed up by the site that I used to get a reading order from and I feel I would have enjoyed some of the earlier books I read a hell of a lot more if they had been put in their proper places in between the Harden series of books. I know understand some things that went on a lot better but this didnt ruin my overall enjoyment of the series at all. It was great!

I'm now back to some Outlanders for a bit whilst I decide where to go next. I will probably check to see if some other series I am into have any new books released before then searching for some new things!

I don't know what country you are from but you weigh in around 118kg which really isn't that much in the grand scheme of things and unless you are going to go to a sketchy as fuck place you are going to struggle more with getting a pair of shoes to fit you than your weight.

Just look for a bouldering center near to you, where I'm from you don't need to pay memberships or anything like that. Just find a place, probably book a time slot then rock up and try it for yourself.

Every place I have been supply shoes to rent but that may be more where you have an issue so may be worth asking ahead if they are able to supply you with ones your size. The shoes make a lot of difference to your experience so I recommend using them.

Every place I have been will supply you with a brief tutorial if you haven't been there before with their rules and then you just knock yourself out and climb. Maybe they do have their own "culture" if you go regularly and start climbing with other people but this is nothing like martial arts. You don't need a partner and that trust of training and sparring with someone you can just climb by yourself and have fun. I've been many times and bar the staff not spoken to anyone at all so if there is some kind of culture I never experienced it :D

I can't offer you any solutions unfortunately but I have been fighting a similar issue for nearly two years now. I was starting to think it was my cassette as I have a sunrace on there and thought maybe not going shimano was causing my issues with the shifting not being entirely perfect.

I have the same derailleur but paired with the GRX shifter up front.

My largest two cogs (11-42) are fine like you. Then my third cog is the worst, often when going from large to small down the gears it doesnt want to go into third and will sit clicking on the second. Other times it'll just jump the third entirely and go straight to forth. Even once it is in the third cog it still clicks as if it is trying to shift up to the second cog and isnt entirely aligned properly on the third.

4the and 5the are also a little sketchy but will usually go into them a lot more reliably but they never fully sound / feel 100% aligned. Sometimes if I put a lot of power through the cranks in these gears it will skip a tooth aggressively which worries me that I will end up snapping a tooth off of one of them.

I am constantly tweaking my barrel adjuster trying to get it better but it always tends to just move the problem around slightly on the cassette and never solves it.

I have changed the cable out as well just in case but that didnt help. I have also changed the crankset in this time which had a very slightly different offset resulting in mm changes in my chain line (I went from an FSA crankset to a GRX one) which i hoped maybe would inadvertently smooth out those slight kinks. It did make it marginally better but overall the improvement was negligible.

So I'm sorry I can't offer any insights but you aren't alone and reading this post makes me think maybe the issue is the derailleur all along for me as that would be the common denominator between us.

I'll pop back to this thread to see if anyone can offer any insights but I have had professional mechanics look at mine (as I usually do all my own work) but that offered no improvement.

These are my feelings exactly! I tried a fair few times to get into 2 but it just never stuck for me but the first game is amazing and in my top 3 of all time probably.

I'll be interested to see some guild wars 3 stuff but I don't know if I'll ever actually play it myself!

I presume the headline is alluding to how eventually people accepted cars are better than horses but then your "better" analogies make no sense.

Auto vs manual, neither is "better", it depends more on situation and personal preference. I'd take a manual over auto any day personally.

Power steering vs not again depends on application. I'd rather have no power steering in a little sports car and get more positive feedback but would rather power steering on some heavy unwieldly vehicle.

A map vs sat nav bullshit. I'm guessing more people would argue the latter being "better" in this case but there are plenty of people who would rather read a map and know exactly where they are rather than blindly follow shit.

So yeh I really don't understand what you are driving at with your analogies and don't think they work for the context unless I'm misunderstanding :)
