The COOP movement has helped many farmers in East Africa survive harsh economic headwinds through savings and credit options, compared to predatory commercial banks. However, there is a lot of name washing by banks that claim they are "COOPs" yet their terms and treatment of humans is like that of for profit big banks. I hope this move is for the genuine COOP, not the name washing.
