New here! Fuck reddit.
1y 2mon ago by lemmy.world/u/trotfox in watchredditdie@sh.itjust.worksSo, I've now had a 9 year account and a 13 year account both permabanned.
They've linked them as the same user and banned me for a benign post on r/pics.
I lost all faith in reddit when they changed the api then Relay for reddit stopped working.
Base model app is shit.
Comments constantly erase and empty endpoint error.
Can't even say 'I like that player two energy on super Mario bros', because that's 'violent'.
I've posted tens of thousands of comments and only recently had issues.
Got banned for saying 'Elon simps in our midst' referring to mods....who proved my point.
And finally now, they are paywalling shit soon.
Adios.
Anyway, I left digg in the great exodus for reddit, now this looks like my new home.
Rant over lol.
Been here since the initial API exodus. It's been pretty good so far. I hope you like it as much as I do. Welcome!
Yup same somebody tell him about the 3 day no poop challenge
Something about beans or something

Is that croc made of denim? Or, what could be called a "Jroc"
I prefer joots
"Kids these days gotta pull up themselves up by their jootstraps"
What a stupid post to get blocked forever over
What a terrible day to have eyes
Something something I pooped on a narwhal.
Leave the narwhals behind. Here, we've got beans made of denim, aka "Jeans" for short.
And don't worry about commenting your opinion here, people here are generally willing to listen if you provide supporting information to your viewpoints
Also Trekkies everywhere.

Where you came from:

Where you are now:

remember kids:
A place in heaven is reserved for those who speak truth to power
Speaking my language.
Point of order: The reason a place in heaven is reserved for such is usually they don't survive long
Only Lemmy sucks itself off this hard all the time
These replies prove it: nobody performs autofellatio quite like someone who recently discovered that social media platforms other than Twitter/Facebook/Reddit exist. The users of this platform are largely identical to the users of reddit. The biggest difference is that I'm told to kill myself far more often here
Found the Reddit mod.
I just really don't like the arrogant, self-congratulatory tone some users of this platform have. We're just all so much better and smarter and cooler than those dumbass redditors, and all we had to do was sign up for a different social media platform
Some people that get banned correctly on reddit make it here on lemmy sadly, like you
What makes you think I've been banned from Reddit? The fact that I don't like the superiority complex lemmings have about our relatively tiny social network?
ETA: Not all of us were correctly banned from Reddit for abusing the report system. I have a perfectly functional Reddit account, and I choose to spend my time here because it's a better platform. I just don't like to cum in my own mouth about it
Eeh, I remember a similar energy on reddit back when Digg had its meltdown.
Most groups suck themselves off about how awesome they are compared to alternate groups in the same genre. Hardstyle vs Progressive trance. BJJ vs Wrestling. Ford vs Holden cars. etc.\
I feel like the trance disagreement is closest to lemmy vs reddit because the disagreement is on principal largely and the end result is pretty similar for a typical, disinterested end user.
Or maybe you should just go back to 卐itter?
fully automated luxury gay space linux
Nice, I hate reddit and powershell.
Fuck Windows and especially fuck MacOS
Respectfully: Fuck both linux and communism.
You're going to have the time of your life here.
I know, lemmy doesn't broker any dissent either
Just as far as echo chambers go, I'd rather have the one where it's okay to talk about punching nazis
They are mostly segregated into their own instances, that's a good thing , and their trolling is less likely to bleed out
SACRIFICE HIM TO THE PENGUINS! URA! URA!
/s needed
Especially on .ml
Lemmy is so communist we all have the same girlfriend. Nicole DM'd me again a couple hours ago.
I feel so left out on this one. Never received a single messaged :(
Maybe she's been banned from .world?
Nothing on my aussie.zone or .ml accounts either though
Respectfully: fuck you.
You don't get to say that till there is a drop-in linux solution for the everyday user.
You've had decades, get your shit together
You can demand whatever you want. Doesn't make it true.
Let me rephrase that. Fuck your demands, respectfully, of course.
You brought the disrespect.
My mother's dead. But I'll let her know if I ever see her again.
Edit: I spoke too highly of Linux in this comment, I think. While it is true that I have used Linux daily for nearly a year, it has not been as simple as a drop in replacement for Windows. Given a choice, I absolutely prefer Windows, but I will not be using Windows 11, and I don't want to use Windows 10 after it loses support in a few months.
Installed Mint like 8 months ago. I didn't even notice that my windows install was doing the failed automatic repair thing until I tried to boot it up for F360 in December, and still haven't bothered to fix it because Tinkercad was good enough. Try convincing me that Linux Mint is not a drop-in linux solution for the everyday user lmao
Ok I tried Mint a few years ago and it was shit, if you talk like this I'm going to try it again
And when it fails, like it always does, 1) I am blocking you, and 2) I am coming back to shout 'Fuck Linux' twice as hard.
I mean if you go into it wanting it to fail, it'll fail. There's a learning curve, as there always is with a new user experience. It isn't a carbon copy of windows, but for the average user, it's a perfectly fine drop-in replacement.
Look son, I've been an IT professional for 3+ decades and I have stood up and admin'ed literally hundreds of linux servers and even I struggled every time I tried to transition my daily driver.
For servers? Nothing better than your favorite linux flavor provided you don't have any unusual peripherals. I much prefer supporting linux over windows servers any day.
For desktops? Not a chance unless its part of a corporate supported package where I get direct dev access 24/7 b/c when it breaks, it breaks in fucktastically stupid ways especially in large user environments
Do you know the blistering scaburous hell of inheriting a userbase of 300+ workstations running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS in the 2020's? BECAUSE I DO!
I spent eight months trying to build an update path to modern Ubuntu or Mint that didn't absolutely nukefuck all of their piles of in-house legacy code THAT LITERALLY HAS NO LIVING ORIGINAL DEVS and I fail it so bad I didn't even charge them for my last 2 months of work
So, please understand I say this as someone with full eyes open and significant industry knowledge: Fuck linux (desktop)
Your anecdote has the same weight as mine, which is - I've run one distro or another on-and-off since the '90s. Daily-drivers since about 2009 I think; I can remember having to reinstall Arch once, my fault because I fucked it up with a partial upgrade and didn't realise what I was doing.
One or two of the jobs I had had infrastructure for Linux, but mostly I'm talking about my own personal computers rather than supporting "a userbase of 300+ workstations" (where you'd probably use AD anyway).
All I was saying was that as far as I'm concerned, Mint is plenty good enough to replace windows on my home computers. If there are some particular technical aspects that interfere with your workflow, then I can see why you would avoid it.
Reddit needed you more than you needed Reddit. The moment you are slightly less efficient advertising money, they told you to hit the road. When people tell you who they really are, you should listen.
That's a good point. Reddit needs humans, they're forgetting that part. Maybe the shareholders are too stupid to figure that out yet?
Doesn't matter if they cash out before others figure it out and are left holding the bag.
And you have now discovered the secret to why everything is shittier everyday in this barely regulated financial elite rodeo
The power mods will probably hold on and try to monetize their sub before they give it up
Reddit needs humans
i guaran-fucking-tee you they are outright lying to their shareholders about how much of their traffic is bots.
I closed my account 2 weeks ago after being there for 13+ years. Thousands and thousands of comments and posts. Oh well, I don't even miss it a little bit. It truly became garbage when they locked out free API access. This banning for liking Luigi or shit talking Elon is so against what reddit was about, they've lost their way and I refuse to participate.
Wild so many are having the same shit happen...
Glad we are both here.
Whoever created this mlmym github repo that gives me old.reddit.com back is a fucking hero OMFG.
is that different from just using old.lemmy.world?
Same thing, also same as oldsh.itjust.works for anyone on that instance
Welcome to the fediverse.
Glad I left Reddit I got banned for asking someone if they were threatening someone else.
I got banned for more ridiculous reason, reporting someone is a bit too much apparently especially if you try to honestly report multiple violations, and they ban you for doing thet
They ban you for upvoting shit now
Like, that's literally the whole point of reddit.
I keep getting banned for the most ridiculously benign comments. They aren't serious adults there.
Exactly. Makes it pointless.
It makes you afraid to speak truth to power, which is what the tech dudebros want. Look at how far to the right Twitter has swung since Musk's takeover. That's what Reddit wants.
Truth.
It's insane how crazy Twitter is now.
Literal nazi haven.
Any political motivated discussion is often astroturfed by Russian bots which triggers people into arguments causing bans
Free Luigi.
Fuck reddit.
Fuck spez.
One of my first issues was when I would say fuck u/spez
I admit, I said it a lot.
Welcome! Yep, I like this place a lot more - higher quality, lower volume.
I check back over on Reddit every so often and it's exactly as you say. It's probably impossible to stop the quality death spiral over there.
I got out recently too, albeit before actually getting ban-hammered. Given how new I am, it's not really my place, but..: Welcome!
Probably would've banned eventually
Yup, and I know it. The alternative was an unpalatable amount of self-censorship I had no interest in, and even that wouldn't be a guarantee due to opaque moderation practices.
I don't have a problem with reasonable limits on behavior, but I can't play by the rules if nobody wants to tell me what they are and / or said rules can capriciously change from one moment to the next with no advance warning or notice.
Welcome, hope you like it here. Reddit kinda went down the drain after the API exodus.
Welcome! I've been here since the API fiasco killed everything but their app.
Lemmy feels like old school reddit, I like it.
It definitely does.
I even have the old.reddit res clone on pc.
didn’t listen to my appeal that I was the one fighting the incel
this sounds so lame dude
Many of them are in cahoots with reddit admins.
They can link your accounts, via the same IP and device, and yourbm browser data
You harassed one person with 7 different personal accounts? ESH
I think what they meant was that they lost all seven of their accounts because one of them got in an argument with an incel. Reddit can very easily link you to your alternate accounts
Yeah man. It’s trash there now a days. Welcome!
I left reddit a few months ago. I wish I never gave reddit a minute of my time.
I don't regret some things, that's for sure.
The friends and other types of experiences I had.
Shame it turned into a shithole.
I started getting exhausted by all the political posts, I cringed every time I saw them
Welcome, sincerely happy to have you. Now go post your favorite interests.
Definitely will be!
Welcome! I left when Reddit is Fun was shut down, and I feel so much safer, as a woman, on Lemmy.
Fuck reddit and fuck spez
Welcome. Lemmy is like Reddit but the lemmings are more dogmatic and sensitive.
WHAT did you just say you little shit???!
/s
I think it's more to do with community size. It's much easier to have non-anonymous interactions on Lemmy than Reddit. You'll probably see less of that vibe as Lemmy scales. Though, tbh, I always found Reddit to be way more dogmatic, sensitive, and above all, dramatic and performative than Lemmy.
Reddit's like the Huffington Post of social media, which I guess makes Facebook Breitbart.
And YouTube all the MSMs combined
Lemmy has the same problem as Reddit. Powertripping mods and community voting pushing the lowest tier karma bait to the top.
.ml is the one to avoid.
YMMV. I can avoid the tankies and the Linux crowd are pretty chill overall, but avoid debating art at all costs.
Elon started to repressure reddit again on criticism against him just recently
Jesus, it's gotten even worse since I left. Fuck Reddit.
Welcome.
I've been here since November. Loving it.
Your comments actually get responses on this platform. Whereas 90% of your Reddit comments will never be seen, much less interacted with.
The downfall of Reddit is well underway.
For me it's bit like living in a village vs. living in a city. You kind of get to know some users here because you see them around a bit, even if you don't always interact with them.
How did you learn of Lemmy?
Asked perplexity what the best one was.
Similiar thing happened to me. Elon has bitch tits.
You forgot fuck spez
Funny you say that, in another comment I tell how that was the first time I got in shit on reddit. And I said it a lot in that era.
I got tired of how mean the comments became...
Yea, definitely picked up some of that Twitter vibe.
That's because reddit just repost mostly Twitter posts out of context too
Eternal September
It honestly feels like the transition from Digg to Reddit way back when. If you're on iPhone, I am using Voyager and have been happy with it.
Yeah I deleted my 13 year old account in 2024 and honestly, good riddance.
Welcome! I hope you enjoy the fediverse!
Yea, good to know I'm in good company!
Also, the fuck is the fediverse.
Fediverse is Stand for Federated Universe,it's like the decentralized social media(mastodon, lemmy, pixelfed, etc) they are use activitypub protocol to connect each other so you can interact with mastodon(or other fediverse social media) user with your lemmy account,in fediverse you can create your own server(instance),While reddit, Twitter, Instagram is centralized social media Controlled by big tech/corporation.
Also, the fuck is the fediverse.
It's what we call the new (ish) nerd Internet.
We "federate", meaning we don't give a shit who owns stuff, so we use "activitypub" to let Lemmy users access posts from other services like PixelFed (new nerd Instagram) and Mastodon (new nerd Twitter) without any additional accounts.
You don't have to worry about it, it just works in the background making more content available to your current Lemmy account.
Welcome to Lemmy, here are a few pointers to help you settle in
Thanks, I don't fully understand how all these realms mix, but I'll figure it out.
I've never looked back. Welcome
Ty. I won't either.
Yep similar story for me, except this was long ago. I got warned several times for suggesting we should kill and eat rich people. But I kept doing it, and so here I am.
Hell ya!

Also a Reddit refugee, but moved over after the API debacle.
After that Reddit decided to ban my 10 year old account, I guess as a final fuck you, but I’m not missing much these days for 98% of what Reddit considers content now.
The other 2% is when I pop in for my super niche hobby subs because Lemmy is too small for those
Was just having this conversation.
Reddit is so big, your super weirdo niche hobby still has 1k plus people to talk to about it, lol.
Digg is starting back up again.
But they're doing it with a Reddit executive.
I did hear something....
I caught the random diggnation stream that was a cam pointed at a desk for an hour. Guess that was this.
I'll pass. Fuck reddit.
The other major tech news I've heard recently about keeping social media free and for the people, is that BlueSky has just implemented a link tracking system so they can track where users go from their site (they're doing so to sell the information to corporate clients).
This means Mastodon is currently the Federated alternative to the twitter style websites.
No
They already fucked their chance, they're just gonna do the same
any american corporate shit is going to go full nazi eventually
just ...no.
Reddit is the new digg. Its taking longer but the result will be the same. When the real mass exodus occurs we will pick up all the toxins currently in their bubble over there.
Welcome. There's a lot less fuckery and it's a lot quieter.
welcome! it is better here
Got banned for saying a member of the Taliban should be killed and not on a merry go round.
Commit Reddit suicide
r/redditseppuku
Lmfao.
I honestly want to back up all my comments....then delete.
Do it!
RedactIt used to work. Or shreddit, I think
I just used a add on to delete all of it
Welcome, there hasn't been a better time than now in a while.
Elom Musk has been pressuring Reddit's CEO to force mods to accept links to hia fascist platform.
So I can only see Reddit become worse as the years go on.
Yep it's already nosedived so much it's way past the point of no return.
A gift of peace in all good faith
This should be the last migration we have to do, since the open and decentralized model resists enshittification.
Yep. And they can't take my fucking app.
I had Apollo then Relay. I'm excited to dig into this!
What's the browser version looking like?
I'm on summit.
resistance is futile
welcome!
Me too
Welcome to the fediverse!
Welcome!
Can you repost your post in c/pics?
Sure when I get a chance!
For Android mobile, I recommend Summit. Another good app is Connect.
I was using sync for Reddit and the developer smoothly transitioned it over to Lemmy without issue
I am dialing in summit and it's amazing.
If they ban your account do they delete your posts ?
They don't.
How do I know? I got banned for arguing with a pedo apologist and telling him to go fuck himself. He replied to a comment and then blocked me so that it would seem like I was droppping off of the convo. I edited my last reply to call him out, and bam. Reddit perma-bans me for 'continuing to harass a user who had already blocked you'.
The only way to get rid of your posts and comments so that reddit doesn't benefit from them is to delete your account.
With the ban in place can you choose to delete your account ?
Yup. The ban just prohibits you from engaging with communities. Like, you can't post, comment, or upvote. You still have access to your account and feed. So, you can choose to delete it. And I think you should be able to delete individual posts/comments too, though I didn't try that myself since I decided to just nuke my account.
New here as well but I also gave you your 666th upvote. So there’s something.
Hell yea!
They're paywalling Reddit?
I think they're paywalling some nsfw subreddits.
Great idea, so many sites flourish when they limit access to NSFW stuff
