How to search within one community?
1y 2mon ago by lemmy.ca/u/klu9 in newtolemmy@lemmy.caSay I'm on the page of a community and I'd like to search for something within that /c.
Looking at the /c's page (in a PC web browser), I see no way to search that /c.
Instead, I have to:
- click on the search icon
- find the box titled "Community"
- click the down arrow at the end of that box
- start typing the name of the /c
- pick the right one out of several options
- and only then finally do my search
Surely there's an easier way?
If not within the existing interface, then maybe... some browser extension or CSS hack?
No, you're spot on. It's one of the improvement that could happen on Lemmy.
I had a look at the alternative front-ends
- https://tess.lemmy.ca/has a "search community" bar if you are in a specific community
- https://alex.lemmy.ca/too
- https://old.lemmy.ca/works similar to old.reddit, so it has it too
Thanks for those.
But wondering... who is getting my login details when I log in with those front-ends?
They appear to be the same TLD as my home instance (lemmy.ca) but I'm already logged in on lemmy.ca yet not logged in on those front-ends.
lemmy.ca hosts those frontends themselves, so it's direct to lemmy.ca
it's also possible to use these frontends externally but you don't need to do that
Thanks. Currently trying out Tess, and then the others in future.
Boost, Connect, and Sync also do it well
OP mentioned a PC, but good to know!
there's an open feature request for this
Thanks for the info.
No action in two years... :(
they responded in 2024 with pull requests being welcome. Depending on how much money this feature is worth to you, a fiverr purchase or someone else here might do it :D Or fundraise it, theehehe
