Is being goth more about the music or the fashion?

Hi everyone! I don’t identify as a goth but I frequent a lot of spaces that have people who are dressed more goth.

Like I dress however (idk how to describe my style) but I have a more eclectic or dark taste in music so I go to a lot of shows, metal bars, or bars/stores with horror and macabre themes.

I always assumed people that dressed in a more gothic fashion were listening to a certain type of music (maybe like the cure or more alternative rock) but I’ve been surprised to discover that the people I’ve met listen more so to indie rock, dream pop, electronic or modern pop. Especially in my city.

Is the music you listen to an essential part of the gothic identity?

Or is it more about interests and Fashion? Is it something that just speaks to the soul?

The metal scene can be pretty elitist 🤢 and you can be seen as a “poser” for not liking certain bands or liking others.

So it’s kind of refreshing to imagine that this scene is more welcoming.

What do you all think?

I Always felt Like its more of a philosophical thing, but im sure a lot is a fashion Statement For me it was always a mix

it’s mostly about cold black hearts
