Is it true? Are we really robbed of our time? I think we do need this kind of escape.

Few examples: After I quit social networks I got addicted to reading news. After I limited that, I am spending lots of time on Lemmy.
My grand parents spent most of their afternoons watching TV.
Before smart phones existed my mom had to remind my dad to put his newspaper (or could be phone) down when we are eating.
And after reading some stories about our great grandparents lots of people escaped to alcoholism and constant sex. I think major contributor to alcoholism being down is existence of another healthier escape (social networks).
Even if I try. I often get to tired to continue my selected exactly for this purpose really mindless hobbies. And just to have something to do I take out my phone and doom scroll. I do often sit with myself and get bored. However I think doom scrolling is just one of escapes we use.
What I try to do about this is at leas doom scroll slightly better stuff. I do not watch tiktoks, but I do browse news, and lemmy and watch lots of youtube. However I try to only watch high quality content I am subscribed to.
But at the end of the day I spend huge portion of my day on my phone mostly doom scrolling.
What do you think about this?
Those are valid things to be concerned about. If you're really looking to change I think some healthy alternatives could be reading books, writing on paper, drawing, painting, playing instruments, crafting, etc.
If you're taking care of your responsibilities, and also have some kind of productive creative hobbies that you also do, where is the harm in the remaining time being mindless escape?
I think there is a danger in the mindset of using every available moment for something productive. Its "hustle culture" on steroids. Give yourself time where you're responsible for nothing. I think it is health if can let your mind wander.
Create something, anything.

Your escapes sound a lot like mine. Other folks have good suggestions for individual pursuits, but I'll chime in that social interaction is pretty fulfilling. When I had a D&D group, it was a great escape with the benefits of being social and creative. There's also gym time with an openness to socializing, sports leagues, hiking, knitting groups, community involvement (like elks or similar). Phone time kind of seeps into any gaps in my schedule so if you want a change, I'd schedule some activities
