Haru Basho 2026 - Day 10
3mon 2d ago by lemmy.zip/u/tigeruppercut in sumoWakanosho up from juryo to have a huge slapfest with Nishikifuji. Waka starts out strong but Nishi gets him to the edge and gives a big nodowa thrust, getting Waka's head off balance and uses it to take him out of the ring.
Mitakeumi stands Tobizaru up with a throat thrust before slapping him back down, but the Flying Monkey stays on his feet and another repeat of these two moves. Unfortunately for him he ended up near the edge as Mita gets double unders and pushes him out.
Fujiseiun had a nice outside trip after some belt fighting with Roga.
Ura and Hakanofuji were all over the ring before Ura got in position to setup one of his classic duck under throws. Haka didn't give him the chance though, and slapped him down with an overarm throw instead.
Fujinokawa with a strong tachiai that Wakataka stopped with a throw attempt that took Fuji off balance. WTK took off from there and drove Fuji out.
Yoshinofuji had a bit of the slippy-otoshi today, and looks like his toes might've gotten banged up in the process.
Another day where Kirishima ends up dancing with one leg up at the straw while his opponent falls out past him.
Oho had a loose belt against Takayasu today, who had to recover off the bales and change his throw to the other side to compensate. Too bad he stepped out as he did, but it was close enough for a redo. Easy push out victory for Oho on the 2nd match.
Hiradoumi starts out in control, working Aonishiki back with an initial thrust and some belt maneuvering. But Aoni recovers back to a short stalemate in the center, then pivots with a big fast overarm hip throw, using his leg and getting Hirado airborne.
To finish, Kotozakura and Hoshoryu both had pretty quick decisive wins.
Ura and Hakanofuji
Hakanofuji was kinda limping afterwards, looks like when he tried to get up his foot was caught under Ura, hopefully it's not too serious.
Kirishima ends up dancing with one leg up
Those are a lot of fun to watch! Good on him for doing so well this tourney.

Easy push out victory for Oho on the 2nd match.
I think Takayasu was gassed, plus he took a hard fall.
Hiradoumi starts out in control, working Aonishiki back
Looks like he was using the "keep him close and high" approach to countering Aonishiki. It worked for a lil while, but Aonishiki got out of it with a trip that woulda looked at-home in a judo match. (Aonishiki's got a bit of a judo background, right?) Tellingly, Hiradoumi and Aonishiki are approximately the same size and weight. Anyway, good show from both of them!
Hoshoryu ... quick decisive wins.
This was a joy to watch. WMH decided to henka, but Hoshoryu saw it in time and basically never let WMH come fully down til he was outta the ring. Then Hoshoryu doesn't even break his stride, but just struts away like: why you wasting my time? Now THAT's how you show contempt for your opponent while still remaining stoic!
Takayasu was gassed, plus he took a hard fall
Poor Papa. I really hope he can get just one yusho before he retires.
