Anyone have recipes for savory filberts/hazelnuts?
2mon 2d ago by slrpnk.net/u/nocturne in veganI have a few pounds of filberts, and I would like to make them into a savory snack. All the recipes i am finding are either some kind of candied, or as a breading, or in a salad.
I have made them before baked with soy sauce, and olive oil. They were okay, but they were not fantastic.
Hardly a recipe, but I would've probably tried to blanch them (boil them in water to make the brown skin come off) and then roasted them in a pan with a bit of oil.
Maybe just do that with a small portion of hazelnuts at first to see how well that works.
But yeah, freshly roasted hazelnuts will probably taste amazing. Could eat them like that or chuck them in your morning cereal, too. 🙂
I would just do the soy sauce / olive oil thing again, but add more seasonings to it and experiment with different flavor combos. One of my favorite snacks is wasabi and soy sauce flavored almonds, so you could try something like this and just use hazelnuts instead.
I like to fry chickpeas with noodles and veggies. I've been considering peanuts, but I wonder if boiling and then frying hazelnuts would be good...
