Today, I discovered that I am eligible to get an EU passport so long as I learn the language of my ancestors' home country.

I always thought I was ineligible because my grandmother lost her right to citizenship by marrying an American man (and having American children). It turns out there is a simplified path to naturalization where so long as you can prove a direct line of ancestry and speak the language conversationally it doesn't matter how far back it goes. Guess I'm learning a new language! Unfortunately it is supposed to be one of the more difficult languages for a native English speaker to pick up...
