I noticed europe@lemmy.dbzer0.com missing from my subscriptions and then piefed.social entirely. I figured I'd try adding it via remote community add but am met with "That community is banned from PieFed." message. What's going on?

The moderator of that community bans people from it even if they've never posted in it, so that the moderator can put slander into the modlog. Check this out - https://lemmy.world/modlog?actionType=ModBanFromCommunity&modId=14007283.If you click 'Next' enough times (there are about 70 pages of it) you'll see they have been doing it for about a year.

Modlog entries are globally visible and cannot be removed so it is an especially effective place to throw mud and sow division. As such, it should be used responsibly.

Seeing as having those communities federate to piefed.social opens a vector for attacks that cannot be answered, appealed or removed I have removed communities moderated by that person.

Unfortunately it's starting to become a popular pass time in some circles...

Is there a way to check a log of what communities and domains are banned from a Piefed instance? I understand the reason but there’s very little transparency here unless I’m missing something (which very well might be). Some are surprising, like now lifted Kotaku ban.

https://piefed.social/instances

Here for instances, but you'd have to filter. The vast majority here are tiny if you're specifically looking for larger instances on lemmy or piefed that have been blocked.

Ah, so it’s entire db0 that’s banned now. That sucks. Now we have two major European communities, one ran by German Zionists, the other by immature anarchokiddies. Sums up how it is to be a leftist these days.

No, db0 is not banned. Just europe@dbzer0.com here.

I specifically showed you how to see what instances are banned.

I can’t access autism community there either so I assumed it was an instance ban.

autism@lemmy.dbzer0.com

This? I can access it.

Weird, can’t see anything in Voyager and I don’t recall fat fingering „hide read posts” there. Will investigate when I’m on the computer.

i'm having the same issue on blorp, maybe it's an api issue of some kind? I can access adhd@lemmy.dbzer0.com on piefed ui just fine, but not on blorp

Yeah, can’t see any posts there either.

Note that there are shenanigans going on between lemmy.world and dbzero0.com. slrpnk.net had a write up about it in its May 1st update. I don't really understand/follow what is going on. There apparently are complaints over comments on zionism and an entryist attempt by neonazis in these communities. I am waiting for the dust to settle but accusations and counter-accusations makes it very hard to understand what is happening there without reading pages of logs.

europe@lemmy.dbzer0.com has returned to piefed.social after we confirmed that the moderator in questions mod-logs would not continue to federate out. Just so you know.
