2 shots to kill anything in armor. 1 shot if you get them in the head (even in heavy armor). There is some arc to the bolt, but apparently there is no damage fall off.
Games are funny sometimes. Crossbow is a boom-headshot when bullets have to be hosed.
Because otherwise the reload time would make crossbow completely unfeasible.
Because making NPC logic can't realistically be based on sound, so the balance moving parts have to be elsewhere
