Usenet?
20d 18h ago by leminal.space/u/imhungry in technology@leminal.spaceI am totally unfamiliar with usenet. I only know about it because I used to know someone who knew about it. I'd usually just ignore him when he talked about it, can't remember why.
Is there a guide somewhere? I looked up some youtube tutorials, it was pretty confusing, seemed to be geared towards people already using usenet.
Quick search showed this: https://www.howtogeek.com/71315/the-how-to-geek-guide-to-getting-started-with-usenet/
I got started with a similar how to about 10yrs ago. I'm a techie but I don't think it's gonna be too hard learn the ropes if you're willing to search around and can follow basic instructions
You sitting there calling it "basic" is what gives me a lot of pause. Usually when "techies" say something is basic, what they mean is "very difficult for the average person, who they think is a bottom-shelf moron."
Tech is hard obviously and requires some effort. If you can't read a bit, stick to TPB, Soulseek, or Rutracker, always with a VPN. And as always for the past 30 years, RTFM for god's sake.
If you can't explain it to someone who doesn't understand it, you don't understand it either.
You're not smart for being unable to explain.
Coming and asking for help and then being a dick isn’t going to get you help in any tech community. Just saying.
You should learn by yourself, I don't have time to explain everything to everyone. I also can't teach a toddler how to write Linux drivers in Rust, it doesn't mean I don't understand how to do that. Once again, lurk more, RTFM, and you will learn a lot.
Why did you fucking reply?
Usually what we mean is “can you follow the actual words printed on the page without deviating and claiming the computer is possessed when in actuality you just clicked something you weren’t supposed to and wasn’t in the instructions”.
Listen I'm starting to get that I'm not smart enough to do this or understand it, but you don't have to make me feel like garbage about my own intelligence. I'm just going to go.
Is there a guide somewhere?
Yes. I linked you to one that looks pretty comprehensive and well explained.
Do you have the base knowledge needed to get value from that guide? Who knows?
Let's try this a different way instead of offering nothing and expecting strangers to fish for exactly the magic words that will get you from current understanding to your desired understanding.
After watching the YouTube tutorials you mentioned and after reading the how-to guide that I linked...
What is an aspect of Usenet that you still don't understand?
I'm getting that you despise me and I'm being annoying, so I'm just going to dip. Thanks anyway. Sorry for bothering you.
I literally took the time to ask you another question in an effort to meet you where you are.
You asked us to explain something to you. I asked you to explain where you're confused. It's an even trade.
