Separation non-sense and when you would pull the cord

12d 12h ago by lemmy.ca/u/bowreality in alberta@lemmy.ca

I posted this on Mastodon as well but I would be curious what people think about this here as well…

We would definitely leave the province and move somewhere else in Canada if this crap goes through. I am Canadian not just Albertan.

I am wondering what would be an indicator(s) to look out for?

When is it time to bail?

Is anybody else considering how one would handle this with property to sell etc?

That's the rub isn't it. If everyone that doesn't like separationist leaves Alberta for somewhere else, then there will be only voters who want separation. They'll become the loudest voice.

I don't see how they legally can separate, with the way the land treaty is with insigenious peoples, and that much of Alberta is Crown land.

Oh definitely not before the vote! We need as many people voting as possible.

I truly think the independence is not what they aim for. They want to join the USA but know that’s going getting votes right now. There is no way Alberta can be independent and if so the USA will invade first day and take over anyways.

I don't understand how they can't see that joining the USA is a disaster for them. Healthcare would be gone, and USA would just milk Alberta dry of oil, while losing so many social services they don't realize people actually rely on

It’s so hard to understand. I guess these are people like the Americans who slam universal healthcare in other countries. They are brainwashed into fighting whatever is good for them. I’ll never get any of this.

Have we been thinking about it? Absolutely?

Can I give you a precise answer? No.

All I can really say is that we're not ready to give up on Alberta right now.

Agreed. Not giving up at all!

Don't give them the satisfaction of evem considering it. Ignore the impossible hypotheticals.

Alberta Can Not and Will Not Separate.

End of the fucking story.
