Intel be201 unable to see 6Ghz networks

10d 15h ago by lemmy.zip/u/LandoLuma in networking@sh.itjust.works

A part of 6Ghz spectrum was recently (approx 4-5 months ago) was delicensed for WiFi usage in my country. Intel pushed an update soon after that to enable the 6Ghz band. Even my router manufacturer..TPLink did the same and my S26U updated to unlock 6Ghz and even on One UI 9 there is option for 6Ghz hotspot. The issue is, my router's 6Ghz Band can bee seen by my phone and it can connect to it too without any problem. But, my laptop is unable to see any 6Ghz network.. neither my TPLink router nor my phone's hotspot. Latest updates applied to every device. Any idea how to fix it?

which distro are you using? maybe the wlan card firmware being loaded on your distro hasn't been updated yet?

Windows 11. Switched from Linux to check for compatibility issues.

i see. on windows i'd suggest looking if there's anything you can try configuring for that wlan device on devmgmt.msc, there's usually a few options available on the 'advanced' tab. other than that, maybe try booting the latest non-lts fedora/ubuntu live usb? (as those distros tend to include proprietary firmwares and have better hw oem support)

Yes will defo give it a try. Thanks

For Linux, the frequency information comes from wireless-regdb, check db.txt to make sure some 6GHz frequencies are allowed for your country, and you can git clone and sudo make install to manually install it if your distro hasn't already updated it.

For Windows, you're reliant on both Microsoft and Intel to enable it.

Alright thanks will check with linux cuz in case of Windows, intel adapters check local WiFi APs and their broadcast frequencies. If 6Ghz is not avl, it disables 6GHz

Where are you based? My guess is that your device doesn't support 6GHz

Could you provide the model number?

WiFi bands vary for different countries around the world. Maybe the card is configured to the wrong location.

I agree but Intel specifically pushed an update to unlock 6GHz for my country recently...

What's in the logs when you try to connect?

Nothing cuz in windows, no 6GHz netw is visible
