Can't get controller to work for Dead Rising 2

I'm using Heroic launcher to play games lately, otherwise have used Lutris or Steam or Faugus etc. I got Dead Rising 2 and have run into this issue of it won't register (in game) that I'm using a controller, or would like to. In all the other games that I have played on any of these platforms, controller support is wonderful. I'm running CachyOS on my machine, so no issues here either. This particular problem had persisted despite using CachyOS, Nobara, PikaOS, or standard Ubuntu. I'm about to start pulling my hair out as I don't know what's causing this. Everything is up to date, and runs smoothly otherwise. I just can't get this game to let me use the controller I have. It even has settings in game specifically for controllers. What do I do? Thank you.

You have mentioned the controller works well with other games, correct? If so, a few things I would look into:

If Steam recognizes the controller you are off to a good start. You can test functionality is working from a site like https://hardwaretester.com/gamepad

In Heroic Games, you can click on your Dead Rising 2 in the library, from here you click on the dots (or the 3 bars, unable to verify as I am not at my home machine) at the top right and can go into 'Game Properties' to rename the game as TachyonTele mentioned. You will also see that on this menu there is a quick way to add the game to Steam. After you fix the name, try adding it this way. Try launching the game from Steam, then go into settings -> keyboard/controller and try to default the config and see if this resolves the troubles!

Does it register your controller if you play it theough Steam? Im thinking steam input might help you.

Unless you have a sony controller. Then good luck.

I'll see what I can do. Should I just run Heroic through Steam? I should have mentioned the game is a repack.

I just add the game exe as a non steam game, set compatible to proton 10, and game away.
I have plenty of GoG and Fitgirl games. The only game ive ever had to give up on was Axiom Verge

Edit: i dont use heroic or anything. Just steam.

I attempted this, however I'm still having the same controller issue. Is there a way to look for community layouts for specific games? It doesn't seem to give me that option, let alone register that I'm using a controller with the exception of enabling big picture mode with the Home button.

If you name the game correctly in your library steam should be able to show community layouts for the game.

I don't know how it would only register the home button. Is it a weird controller?

I mean, I guess it's not a major brand or anything but it's nice for what it is. How to you rename the game? All it seemed to give me an option for was just adding the exe and that was it.

(Edit) it's a Gamesir {Zikway}

Game Properties

Ive never heard of those controllers before, but they look legit at a glance. If they have the xbox api it should be fine.
