Is there any means of transferring an account from one instance to another ?

I had created an alternate account loveespresso@cafe.coffee-break.cc and l really love the features of this instance. However, the admin of the instance drew my attention to his limited server and is requesting me to shift it to some larger instance rather than him closing it due to the number of posts and the resulting traffic it's generating.

There's an import and export feature. You can click on the gear symbol (at the top, right) and go to "Import & Export" export your settings and subscriptions on the old instance, and import them on the new one. That will at least take care of your subscriptions and user settings.

It looks a pretty difficult process. I mean l'm not a tech nerd.

Hmmh. I mean what do you need transferred? I think the feature doesn't do more than the communities you're subscribed to, plus the settings like whom you blocked... All the content doesn't transfer as far as I know... So maybe it's not even the right tool for you?!

I simply want to bring my account loveespresso@cafe.coffee-break.cc to some other instance. The admin of the present instance told me that l use the instance a bit too frequently and it's resulting in too much of traffic for his server to handle.

If you look at my posts and the conversations they've generated l don't wish to lose those.

I think as we can't move conversations (they're tied to an account) the best course of action is to just keep the old account there, don't create new posts with it, and from now on use a new account to write to people.

I'm not using the account anymore, but the admin doesn't want an English language account inviting traffic from remote instances and communities.

If they're okay with that, just leave it there and don't touch it anymore. It won't invite new traffic unless you create new posts and comments with it. And that way it just stays there as an archive and everyone (including you) can keep reading the old stuff. It won't be the same as you transferring the old content... but it's still there.

You can go to http://redirect.piefed.social/and it'll show you a list of Piefed instances with open registrations. Should default to the one that is closest to you geographically.

Too much technical for me to pull it out of one instance into another. Anything simpler ??
