Orthochromatic film was rather popular back then. It was sensitive mostly to blue light, and not at all to red. So it may be just very rosy faces from sun exposure working outside.
Lots of peculiarities in this pic, the different footwear (socioeconomic, cultural/age (headscarf colour/quality too?), or practical/professional reasons?), electricity with several lines in what looks very rural/end of town setting (maybe bcs of that building in the distance, back then outside big cities folk with means & knowhow had to personally build such infrastructure), smol rail tracks right next to/on the road (quarry, maybe lumber), rock (?) piles next to houses, ...
