Can I finish the game playing solo?

Technically speaking, no. The final biome is to be released in September, so until then, there is no grand finale yet.

More seriously, the Valheim subreddit appears to have the consensus that the Mistlands and Ashlands are better suited to multiplayer, but I have no first-hand experience. Take my remark with a grain of salt.

Yes. You can on normal atleast. You can also change any of the difficulty sliders to what you want to play.

If you're on the fence about buying, pull the trigger. Its a good solo game, and fun co op sometimes.

I already bought it, but after a tragic death in the first boss, and seeing so many people playing Coop, I was in doubt.

Completely understandable

I haven't played in a while - my last playthrough was during Mistlands - but it's completely doable solo in my experience. I've had worlds with friends and ones with only myself, and both are a great time.

I mean, it's a great game and I really enjoy playing. I once tried to kill the first Boss and died until I gave up the map and started another one. Now I don't know when I'll be ready to try again. At least I'm good at killing wild boars.

You can change the world difficulty. If you're not there for the boss fights (I'm not, I like the exploration and building), then the lower difficulties will make it easier to focus on other things.

If you do enjoy combat, don't forget to upgrade your armor and weapons. You should also experiment with the different food types to see which combinations suit your style the best.

For boss fights specifically, they all cater to slightly different strategies. I typically fight the first boss (Eikthyr) with a bow, for example, but I usually use a mace for the third boss (Bonemass). It may be that you were dying because your strategy wasn't particularly great for that boss, especially if you went melee - I personally hate Eikthyr in melee.

Final thought: If you're having trouble seeing during the fights, turn off the screen shake setting. My eyes... get dizzy? I like the setting on most times, but I turn it off for boss fights. Particularly fights like Eikthyr, where his light-up, Christmas-y attacks make it hard for me to see all on their own.

Hey, I don't like these combat things very much either, not with Boss. I am more about hunting, building and exploring, maybe it is better even if I reduce the difficulty to enjoy the game more. I'm going to figure out how to do it on Xbox. Thanks

On the "Join World" screen you should see an option for world modifiers. For your interests, I'd recommend turning down at least the combat settings and death penalty, and you could even go as far as making all the enemies passive (no attacking until you attack them) if you want it to be extra chill.

Thank you for the advice, I was very discouraged about just killing wild boar and building with wood.

I'm glad I could help! Valheim is a great game - I think I had over 500 hours in it while it was still only up to the Plains, lol.

I've done multiple solo playthroughs up until the Ashlands. I have yet to fight Fader, so I don't know how feasible it is, but of all the other bosses, they're all doable solo without taking damage except for Yagluth (plains boss).

I played wirh a buddy and it's very fun in coop. I've seen people play solo without problems. But be warned it can get grindy. You can change difficulty settings any time though.

I quit at ashlands as it seems impossible to make it there solo. I couldn't navigate the boat and defend at the same time so my boat kept getting detroyed and losing everything. Unless they updated that, you're going to have a bad time. I completed up to and including mistlands by myself. I was playing on a self hosted server so I could play with my kids (but it was too hard for them) so there was no save rollbacks or anything.

I'm kinda disappointed honestly.
