BioWare's co-founder fought to make Baldur's Gate 3 for over a decade, then Larian did it instead: 'I don't really get jealous'

Just as there were multiple Bhaalspawn, there was never really just one Baldur's Gate 3.

Kinda feel bad for Trent Oster, since he worked really hard to make the Enhanced editions. But at least he can respect the game Larian ended up making.

I'm not a huge fan of the writing in BG3, but I can't say that a Beamdog BG3 would be any better. In fact - judging by the added EE companions and content and SoD - I would imagine it would be significantly worse.

Oster does nail the benefits of RTwP, though:

"To me, real-time with pause walks a line that I kind of like. If you're rolling into a fight and it's just some goblins, you mow them down, it takes six seconds. Whereas in a turn-based game, you allocate 20 minutes to just beating up six goblins."

But I guess this easily leads into another discussion about game design, and whether trash mob fights are actually beneficial at all. You could just as easily shave them off, rebalance games and have every encounter be actually meaningful instead.
