[Song of the Day] Kendrick Lamar - reincarnated

I don't think I've posted a rap/hip-hop song before, at least not a western one. I did post the one by Creepy Nuts. I was raised on Motown and R&B as well as classic rock (or what we now know as classic rock, it was modern then), but I gravitated toward rock and metal. I did listen to some R&B and rap later, but it was never my main jam. A year and a half ago, I heard Kendrick Lamar was doing the Super Bowl halftime show, and some of my friends wanted to watch it. So, I wanted to be familiar with the artist. I listened to his album GNX and found I liked most of the songs (as well as the off-album single Not Like Us), but especially reincarnated. Most/all of the songs on GNX are stylised in lowercase.

My read on this song is it's kind of like Sympathy for the Devil by the Rolling Stones, trying to make the devil out to be a sort of sympathetic character. It's not Satanic, and neither was the Rolling Stones song. It's about how the Christian devil was originally the angel of music and how he's just tripping through the ages trying to get by with his guitar and a beat. I'm not religious, so maybe it's a luxury that I can see it that way, but, that's how I see it. Because to me, they're not real, they're fables meant to teach you something.
