What is some smaller gaming news?

1d 6h ago by feddit.uk/u/theOneTrueSpoon in games

I don't mean things like new games being announced, or old games getting remakes. I mean things like new discoveries in older games, or a secret that was finally solved, etc. Something a bit different from the usual announcements that might have been overlooked

There's a team of people called Harbour Masters who decompiled Nintendo 64 games (or used decomps from other people, I'm not sure) and recompiled them as native PC ports. So far they have done Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Mario Kart 64, Star Fox 64, and Super Mario 64. All of these games can be played without an emulator, they support widescreen and modern resolutions, and can be played at higher frame rates without issue.

There is another team of people called Linifadomra who have done the same thing, and recompiled Twilight Princess for the GameCube under the name Courage Reborn.

The actual news is that both teams, Harbour Masters and the Linifadomra, have announced that they will be working together to recompile more GameCube games. I'm not sure if Harbour Masters is done with N64 games or not, but I'm looking forward to seeing what games they will work on next.

Made some edits, I mixed up teams

News to me they're joining forces, but that's extremely exciting!

I mixed up the Dusklight team with the Courage Reborn team, so I went and fixed my other comment. I only follow Harbour Masters so I saw their announcement, not sure if Linifadomra has made an announcement

Oh that sounds cool! I recently played the dusk light recomp of Twilight Princess on steam deck. Would be great to have more GameCube games to play!

I recently watched a 1 hour YouTube video about how some streamer (Werster? )has been cheating at Pokemon Emerald Battle Factory.

The fact that this community still exists in 2026 is surprising but not too shocking.

Man, I used to throw on Werster's vids back in the day to listen to while I worked. What a bummer he cheated.

Apparently this has been an ongoing pattern with him from what the video alleges.

He fakes a respectable record for clout in the community and if he gets discovered as a cheater he just leaves that community.

Here’s the link for the morbidly curious.

I've never heard of the guy, but that's pretty interesting!

Not sure if I can self-promote, but I remastered the opening animation for King's Quest VI https://www.moddb.com/mods/kings-quest-vi-remastered-opening

That's awesome!

Failbetter Games released a new trinket into Fallen London a few months ago, and nobody's found it yet. They have the data on their servers, apparently no players have found it.

We have no idea where it is, but some of the more dedicated players think it's likely to be at zee or on the roof.

I haven't heard of Fallen London, but I think things like that are pretty cool. Gets the community working together to find it

There is this game developer who was working on his game for 2 years. He was planning to release his game soon, but somebody stole the name and the idea. Crazy stuff.

Not sure if this qualifies, but Minecraft just got a landmark mod which gives it a full physics sim to allow for making cars, planew, blimps, etc.

In Wurm Online, a few new deeds have gone up around Linton village on Xanadu, located in the center of the Free Islands. Local reception of the newcomers has been both welcoming and supportive.

Is it difficult for new players to jump into Wurm Online at this point? I've always liked the idea of the game but never got around to giving it a solid try.

I won't lie, there is a LOT to learn. But if you do the tutorial intro, then follow the beggining journal quests, you'll be able to enjoy the game without having to know everything.

I just started a couple weeks ago and I can say that the friendly and active community is what has kept me here. Wurm feels like the love-child of Everquest and a game like Valheim.

Exploration, survival, crafting, depth, community, and not being hand-held in a theme-park world is what attracts me to this one.
