Romans: not yet. First we need to bring you to Rome and march you through the streets as spoils of war before we can sacrifice you in front of the temple of Jupiter. But I promise that it isn't a religious thing
"It's not human sacrifice because even if the Senate doesn't grant us a Triumph, you're going to be executed anyway tbqh"
The devil's advocate would say that even war is improving with time
Funny how that is. Like accepting that it's better to get sick today than in 1000 AD; but with the dual caveats that further improvement is still needed, and that it's better to not get sick at all, lmao.
It's true. Even the world's poorest are materially richer and better informed than people in their position in the past. Due to the advance of society's demands it means they aren't any better off though.
This is true. War is now really expensive compared to the benefit of not having war. See the Iran debacle.
As opposed to ancient times, when war was free.
No. People's economic output was just much lower, and resources like land were limited. Compared to the postindustrial economy where people's labor make more resources.
War is still waged because world leaders are bloodthirsty ghouls.
In-between:
"Are you going to kill me?"
"Nah, but I want forty dollars from your dad."
