Carrying on an old tradition. What features / issues should I work on next?
2y 9mon ago by lemmy.world/u/ljdawson in syncforlemmyThese threads used to be really useful back on Reddit.
I'm currently finishing off full app translations for the next release along with lots of the usual bug fixes.
What should I prioritise next?
Cheers, Lj
Client-site "multicommunities" would be nice. A way for me to group multiple communities into a single feed like multireddits.
Oh this, like God mode š
Even better if this could be a lemmy feature I think, but client-side would be good too
fairly minor thing, but can you detect from sync whether a home instance allows downvotes? mine does not, but sync still displays the unusable downvote button on everything
A few features I would love to see:
-
A way to view groups of multiple communities in a single feed. Like a multicommunity. A workaround right now is to have multiple accounts, which is less than ideal.
-
A way to view content from multiple accounts in a single feed. Like a universal feed.
-
An easier way to have the same settings apply to multiple accounts.
-
A way to block instances or communities.
Regarding #3: a way to copy/synchronize subscriptions between accounts.
I use a main account and a backup account on another instance in case the main instance is down, so I want those to have the same subscriptions. Manually synching them would be fine (maybe with options like copy everything, mirror the subscriptions, make sure B does not contain the same as A, etc.).
What he/she/they said š
You can filter instances and communities. For clarity, you mean blocking all users from those instances from your feed/comments? Do you also mean blocking all users from a community from showing up? If so that seems harder.
When browsing "local" or "all", it would be nice to have some kind of indicator next to the community name to let you know if you've already subscribed or not. I browse "all" sometimes looking for new communities to sub to and I click through to find out I'm already subbed often.
I think something as simple as being able to set a different color for subbed communities would work well and be enough to stand out at a glance.
I second this. Especially useful as you could be following an exact or similarly named community and not notice it's on a different instance.
Definitely, until or if we ever get a way to federate communitied together, it would be nice to see at a glance when you run across one you're not subbed to and quickly sub to it.
Or an option to browse all non-subscribed.
Oh this would also be great. I think both options would be nice so you could browse non subbed when you are looking for what you're missing specifically but also have the indicator so you can still browse and if something catches your interest, you can sub.
yes i would like this.
Block users by instance:
Yes please!
Hey LJ, do you think you could also add the possibility to import/export (or at least copy) my blocked keywords so that I can share the list with others online?
My biggest feature request is an option to view upvotes and downvotes separately rather than as one combined number. Ideally the current combined method would remain an option as well.
Is it not possible to add upvotes history?
Yea I would always go check upvotes to find a post from recent, miss that feature
I am considering creating multiple accounts to upvote this even more. Ok just kidding, but seriously if this is at all technically feasible it is by far my most missed feature. I often used my upvote history as a sort of very loose bookmarking system. I realize I can save posts, but I usually reserved that for extra special posts that I really needed to save.
The way Lemmy is set up I've actually struggled to find a post I upvoted just a couple hours prior. It can be very frustrating.

Comments collapsing down not up.
I.e. I read a long comment, collapse it and then don't have to scroll up to read the next one.
Related, collapsing the parent comment as well, not just the children.
You can already do that

This is what happens when I long pressed on my own comment to collapse it. I'm asking to have the comment that I long press also have its comment body hidden. Is that a setting somewhere?
Edit: It's a toggle option in settings, search for "collapse".
I'm pretty new here. Thanks to your post learned they collapse at all - kept trying to collapse them the way relay did for reddit. And had just decided oh well guess they don't collapse here.
Last time I tried using the spoiler tag, I got multiple people responding telling me sync used syntax different from what Lemmy standard is. Not sure if that's been fixed yet, but sounds like an easy one.
To see a list of all communities on an instance. Unless I'm being dumb, I don't see this feature yet. And a subscribe button next to each community in the list
you can, if you open an instance, there is a 'communities'. from there you can open each community and subscribe.
this would be easier with some images... lemmy grab those

Oh nice, thanks! I don't know how I missed that
https://i.imgur.com/mXawBC1.jpg
This is what I see after the clicking view instance. No communities button :(
Edit: im dumb, it's in the floating button menu
Combining multiple posts on all / local feeds:
Came here to suggest this. As someone who browses the new feed a lot this would make it so much better.
This is the one thing that needs addressing. Seeing someone's post 15x over two pages just makes me want to stop using Lemmy. Consolidation of crossposts would be huge please!
Something that only makes sense on lemmy and not Reddit, but I think it would be cool to explore a combined account view. With defederation I've now ended up with multiple accounts that can all see different things. Could be nice to combine my beehaw and lemmy.world subscriptions view together.
Have a global setting for not sharing the post title by default when I want to directly share an image from the app. It's come unstuck and turned back on for me a couple times.
I also wanted to say the only reason I'm using lemmy at all is because of your app; I'm a big fan. As soon as your app turned off for Reddit, I quit using Reddit. I'm glad that you turned to this community, and I'll support you here too :)
Side note: I'm a software developer, so if you ever want an enhancement in an open-source library, maybe reach out and I can take a crack at it. I'm mostly familiar with Python and C# but I'm always willing to learn new things!
A way to group subscribed communities into a single 'subscription'. I can then associate all the tech related stuff into one clickable item, and all my sports related stuff etc.
Idea is to let me view subscriptions by 'topic'
Rename other users or hide certain characters. Im sick of people using emojis in their names but I don't necessarily want to block them.
Viewing a user profile should have the option to see "posts/comments" together, and should default to it, just like Sync for Reddit. Thanks for all your hard work!
I've actually already added that for the next release!
It works for saved too
You're the best!!
Blocked instances appear in comments.
Allow users to switch accounts when making posts or comments instead of having to go back to the home screen
+1! Easy account/instance switcher from anywhere would be so helpful.
Notifications. Doesn't have to be push notifications - polled notifications is fine as well until push is implemented.
After that, cross-posting support.
When people post images, they often use markdown in the text field. Sync doesn't display this properly in the posts feed.
I'd like to get a quick option to block a community right alongside the filter options (filter user, filter site, filter community).
yes this would be good, it would avoid being obligated to open a community to block them.
I don't have to open a community to block it... Just clicking the three dots on a post and then the three dots on the community name gets me there.
Oh man! Lifesaver. Totally missed the second menu. Thanks!
For your first point:
You can link to settings in the app??? That's dope.
Look at this guy over here, real wise guy š¤£
A cross post button or option of some kind.
Search function. I get this. I cannot search remote instance toast whenever I try to search
Good spot. Fixed for the next release.
Hiding blocked communities from the 'Everything' feed please
Blocked or filtered?
I've been 'blocking' irrelevant communities in the Everything feed hoping it would do something. Was not aware that there was 'filtering' which may actually do what I want. Seems to me that any blocked communities should still never be visible anywhere though?
Adding to blocked will hide them from the everything feed.
Can you confirm they're blocked here:
Eternity for Lemmy implemented this and it's been really handy for small instance users to funnel traffic through our instances.
Block Bots
Please
You can turn off the "show bots" option in Lemmy. I suppose you might have to go to the webpage instead of using Sync, but it's definitely an option.
Or you can block them like any user you find annoying.
I don't recall what app I was using before Sync was ready, but it had the option built in. Sync was my favorite Reddit app, and I am so glad it's available for Lemmy. I'll check out blocking through the website. Thanks for the heads up!
There's filtering in app, too, which can help, but if you don't want to see any bots, I feel like that's your best bet. (If it's just one or 2, you can block them from any post without too much hassle either.)
Having webp images/animated images show up in the post feed without having to click on the image
Offline sync would be fantastic.
Not sure if it's a setting I've missed, but I use top 6 hour for the front page, which is great, but then when clicking into a post it still uses top 6 hour, which generally shows little activity or replies, until I then have to change it to active etc to see the whole thread. Am I just being dumb?
Blocking an instance.
Until the Lemmy devs add this you can filter locally
+1 to instance wide blocking, it's a feature that is sorely needed.
That said, it's on the lemmy devs' road map so idk if you'll want to wait for that... But I'm not sure when they'll get round to building that feature.
Is there a link to the road map?
It's that different to filtering an instance?
Filtering occurs on your device.
Blocking occurs before it gets to you.
Emoji support would be :chefs-kiss:
User tagging similar to Reddit Enhancement Suite. Specifically keeping a count of up/down votes of other users and displaying next to their comments. Also when tagging users it saves a link to the comment causing you to tag them.
The current user tagging feature is the largest reason I subscribe to sync Ultra. It's really one of the only things that helped out with the spam aside from keeping to smaller communities.
posted before maybe:
-
filters with a timeout (filters that disappear after a while). The filter might remain in a list of filters and can be reset again (or gets deleted after timeout). This would be a middle ground between blocking certain things completely and not at all.
-
weighing of certain communities. A weight of 0 would be the same as blocking. A weight of 1 doesn't change anything. A Weight of 0.5 would multiply the upvotes of posts by 0.5 in order to change its position on the frontpage. ( I am not sure how exactly the rank is determined, but weighing certain meme-communities lower would be nicer than completely blocking them - i like a nice stupid meme from time to time. am not sure how this could work on reality, son this might not have a perfect solution though.
i think posts are ranked server side.
there is a new type of sorting that takes into account the size of the community. the PR was merged but idk when it will be implemented in the clients.
Would like an "overview" when going on mine or someone else's profile so posts and comments are mixed. Saves me clicking through each and giving better context.
Is there a way to see what I've upvoted? I've basically been both upvoting and saving everything. Thank you for all the work either way!
An option to disable the toast 'you are hiding everything on page 6' and just continue on anyway, without needing to press retry.
-
I would like to be able to have the auto-complete/predict/correct available in the title field with the OpenBoard keyboard app, please.
-
And editing the title? (I learned I can do it from the website, but would like to be able to do it in Sync, if possible.)
+1 for title editing!
Nice idea
A rework of font sizing is something I really want to add too.
Maybe a little slider under general.
Funny, I came to this community and ended up on this post, searching for how to make comments larger!
This app actually rocks. I am so enthusiastic to see what kind of improvements and updates are in store! Great job!
I have four suggestions that I didn't mention in our previous talk:
1._ Swipe to upvote/downvote the main post in the comment section.
2._ Subscribed mark/icon for communities in the feeds or the new instances view to quickly know if we are already subscribed to such communities.
3._ In the Explore section the subbed users count only show up in unsubscribed communities, it would be nice if it shows In your subscribed communities as well.
4._ Ability to browse per instances in other sections (like when we are inside a community)
I would love a Scroll to top button when browsing an instance, or to have an option to Subscribe without scrolling all the way to the top. I tend to visit a new instance, check out a couple pages, and then subscribe. But by then the Subscribe button is really far away.
Just tap the top bar?
Thanks! I did know about this one but it only works on communities with short names. If the community has a long name, there is no space left in the top bar that you can tap to scroll to the top. But someone else told me there's a Scroll to top option in the FAB menu, so I've enabled that!
I have a "scroll to top" button in my FAB menu, or in that top bar menu that shows the same thing (and if it's not visible, there's a menu that lets you pick what buttons to show)

Edit: This is all in the FAB menu, if you're showing more actions in the FAB here: Settings shortcut: General > FAB action
in the 3 dot menu in the navigation bar at the top, or even in the bottom-nav bar, in the menu that is the Sync icon (if you're using that)
Thank you very much! Sorry for replying so late, I clearly need to work out some of my settings because I didn't know about this option in the FAB and I also didn't get any notifications for replies to my comment š. I've enabled the FAB now with scroll to top option, thanks for taking the time to explain!
Does the API let you explore an instance?
You can already do this on the live version.
Found it! Thank you.
I don't get notifications when a message is in my inbox, but I have notifications enabled.
Ditto. This is probably my only Sync for Lemmy complaint right now.
Same.
Filtering "All" by language. I know it's a GIGO situation, but I think I'd take the win.
Can we have notifications about replies/messages at least when opening the app up? (It doesn't have to poll all the time for them, but hourly polling or something can be an option).
This is just about ready to launch.
For us perverts it would be great if the Redgifs audio issue was fixed.
It also prevents sharing the actual redgifs link easily cause you need to open it in the browser and then share the link. Otherwise it shares the API link.
It did work as intended on Sync for Reddit.
Was this fixed? I'm using the Summit app on Android, and it's a hit or miss when it comes to playing the Redgifs audio in the app. It shows up sometimes and other times it doesn't, even if the audio exists on the Redgifs website.
If Sync works then I'd be happy to switch
It's a small QOL suggestion, a "Previous" and "Next" comment button when traversing through comments. I used to use RIF prior to coming to Lemmy Sync and always liked being able to jump from comment to comment.

Bottom navigation styleThis navigation element inside the posts has that (but if you don't use the Bottom Nav... I have no idea) I think it would be good to add it to any view.

(Hah, I used the wrong words. Sorry about that!)
I'm dumb! I completely didn't notice. I appreciate the clarification!
FWIW - it's not the Bottom Nav that does it. I was wrong about the names of the elements involved. I think it's just a typical post/comment browser element that lets you do that, and the Bottom Nav is for the feeds.
My bad! ĀÆ\_(ć)_/ĀÆ
Either way, you can long-press any of the 3 spots - instead of "next comment up" it's "aaaallll the way up", same for the down a comment/all the way down, and the middle icon lets you change the comment sort type.
Unless I'm missing something, the scrub bar and other information never go away while watching a video?
You can long press the video for now but I'll be giving the media player a revamp at some point.
Sometimes, when scrolling, I get "Your filters have blocked all the posts on this page" or "You have read all the posts on page 17" or whatever.
The pop-up gives either a "Next page" or a "Retry" button (IIRC). When I press it, I'm able to continue just fine.
Can there be a setting added (or something) that just auto-presses that button for me? I'm cool with just scrolling forever, and it seems a little silly that I get stopped by that prompt but pressing 1 little button fixes it.
On behalf of all the perverts out there, how about a toggle filter for only showing NSFW posts. Would be nice for...ahem... "discovery" on the everything feed.
Assuming it's not already possible that is.
I think that's called making an account on pornlemmy lol.
Fair point, not a lot of NSFW on other instances. But there might be and I'll never know! š„ŗ
There are two horribly synergistic bugs on my favorite NSFW instance, lemmynsfw(dot)com:
Sync's community filters don't work on that instance, and that instance's community blocks don't work either! They're not related, I'm sure, but when both are broken I see things I can't unsee.
I built up a huge list of community filters in the app, and then one day realized not a single one was working. Not even if I cleared the whole list and added just one filter. Refreshing didn't help. Nor did clearing the cache. At least, I think I tried that.
And, for some reason, Blocks don't work on that instance either, but only when requesting my feed through the API. Blocks do work on the website itself. But that's not your issue. That's theirs.
The first issue has been fixed for the next release. Cheers
What was the issue? I'm really curious.
Ah just how I was handling "local" previously to the new instance viewer
that is rather strange, i have blocked plenty of communities, both from a local account on that instance and from remote account.
and both works. if i open a blocked community sync says 'there are no posts' or something similar. and the community show as blocked.
I'd like the option to exclude a community from an instance filter. There's a community I'm interested in in an instance that is 90% garbage.
If a subscribed community could bypass the filters, that'd be fantastic
Fixing the bug where instances can't be loaded please!
Just want to make sure you're aware of this: https://discuss.online/post/1294119
I cannot connect to discuss.online as a home site from Sync at the moment, though I can browse it from other home sites. It is not an issue unique to me. The admins of the instance have come to the conclusion it is a lemmy/3p client issue rather than an instance issue, and that clients it breaks now will break more completely with future lemmy rollouts.
Got it thanks
It looks to be an issue with using the backend 0.18.4-beta.8, ever since my instance updated to it I haven't been able to use Sync either
Seconding this. I switched over to discuss.online recently and was surprised when I suddenly couldn't use Sync. Took a good while before I happened upon the admin post about the issue so now I'm back to Lemmy.world on Sync
Sometimes images don't allow me to resize them. Closing and reopening the image fixes it, but I don't know what causes it initially. More a minor annoyance than anything, but I still wanted to bring attention to it since I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere.
Do you mean when submitting an image?
Sorry I should have been more clear. When opening a posted image, I won't be able to pinch to zoom or double tap to zoom. Swiping to close the image won't work either. I have to tap to close then reopen and everything works like normal. Again it only happens rarely and I can't cause it to happen on purpose. No idea what causes it.
I have noticed this issue as well sometimes. First time I open an image it doesn't respond to pinch to zoom. But if I close and reopen it, pinch to zoom works again.
I would like to be able to hide top level comments down to their username line only so that i don't see the comment but can unhide it if i want.
Already an option
How? Whenever I press to hide, it only hides the comments/replies underneath it.
Settings > comments options> collapse parent (it's the last option at the end)
it worked! thank you
No worries! Sorry, it occurred to me that I could have given you that information in my initial response rather than being unhelpful like I was. Sorry about that
Hey!!...No problem. You came through regardless š
Do you plan on supporting logging in from Kbin instances once the API is live?
I haven't had chance to look at their API but if it's close enough for sure.
Otherwise I'll be making Sync for Kbin (with shared ultra subscription etc).
Microblogging on Sync with kbin would be awesome
I prefer Kbin but use Sync because I don't like Kbin's PWA. I'd love Sync for Kbin... once Ernest finally gets that API in!
Checking Kbin's Git repo, it looks like Ernest just merged a bunch of API stuff, so hopefully the next major release will have a working API.
EDIT: It would also be nice if there was a way to carry settings over to/from Sync for Kbin and Sync for Lemmy. I have a lot of sports instances filtered out in Sync, and it'd be nice to have some sort of "import" feature that imports all settings/filters from one instance to another (or one Sync to another).
(with shared ultra subscription etc).
That's... nice.
Change logo to indicate the lemmy connection..This is not at all a serious request, just a personal request fuelled by OCD to get everything as connected as possible.
Double dipping with the answers, but it would be awesome if we could toggle filters on and off. My list of filtered communities is enormous (40+ just for various sports teams I don't care to see on the everything feed), but if like to sometimes disable all filters just to see how the standard experience looks.
I imagine a toggle for each filter category (instance, community, users...)
Does the floating navigation bar exist on the Lemmy app? I feel like I had it at one point but I could be mistaken. I love being able to just from parent to parent comment on some threads.
Knew it was there somewhere. Thank you! Idk why I couldn't find that before posting lol
How about being able to move the up/down vote buttons to the right side for comments. And make them a little bit bigger.
Second being able to reorder that ribbon. I like the size though.
I'd like the ability to open an account in a different window. Like how you can long press on a community and it opens in a new window, but with for accounts. Would make it easier than switching accounts and losing your position
I'll note that when using multiple windows, I recall that switching the user in one window would switch the user for all other windows as well, so support for simultaneous user sessions would probably have to be added as well.
Shouldn't this combination of settings result in a red preview? Or no preview? Currently it still shows a blurred preview.
Red was removed and replaced with just the blur.
The blur doesn't really hide much sometimes.
Bad in public lol?
Please make Sync compatible with Lemmy v0.19. lemmy.sdf.org updated to v0.19 and Sync no longer works for me. I'm having to use a different app in the meantime.
I have "hide read posts" enabled on the Lemmy side, through the desktop page.
When I go to my profile on Lemmy's website, I don't see any posts I've made (which makes sense, I've read every post I've ever written), but I do see all my comments in the comment section of a read post.
For some reason, on Sync it doesn't show the posts or the comments. My profile is completely empty unless I go into the settings on my Lemmy instance and toggle the "hide read" setting.
Unfortunately I can only show what the API returns there.
Full immersive mode for non Samsung devices, or transparent navigation bar for those of us who hate gesture navigation.
An option to have separate up/down vote buttons
Collapsing entire comment threads. It can be hard to read the top-level comments in each thread when you have to scroll through. Being able to collapse a top-level comment and all replies to that comment in one button press would help with this.
it exists, I have it enabled so that by holding on a comment, all the child comments hide.
alternatively, all comments for all parent comments hide with one click on the minimise button via the bottom tool bar
I wish to be able to flip the behavior.
One tap to collapse <> expand. Long press to open the menu.
Settings shortcut: Comment options > Single click to hide comment This should fix it. I have both of these settings enabled and it makes it feel more fluid imo as well as use the swipe gestures to save/upvote.
Nice! Thanks for the info š
Thank you so much
Not a terribly important feature, but I'd like to be able to create multiple instances of a view type, each of which has its own configuration, and be able to switch between them with a quick action.
My phone is so wide that it's difficult to hit the thumbnails in the list view when I hold the phone in the opposite hand (right hand with thumbnails on the left vs. left hand with thumbnails on the right). This feature would allow me to quickly switch the view :)
Is there a way to create a community? I don't think I've seen a way but I haven't done a thorough deep dive
I noticed that saved items are ordered by their post date, not by their saved date like on Reddit Sync. This makes it super hard to find the latest ones you saved.
Could you add this please?
Was going to say the same thing!
Am I missing a easy one-button to crosspost something from one community to another? If not, then that would be pretty handy.
I know there's share, and I love how much flexibility there is in the share button already, but as a bit of a noob a simple one button crosspost button would be nice. Especially if it has some automated best-practice type settings for the message and media like linking to original post, maybe tagging as a crosspost etc.
Bit of a noob, and even on Reddit was a long time lurker so I always get a bit anxious at how I should be crossposting "correctly".
You could even sneak in some tagging or a formulaic note in the messages to make it easy for Sync to merge duplicate posts found on multiple communities.
Being able to rotate or mirror an image.
I can't find a way to fully collapse a comment, it always collapses only the children, is there a way to change it?
Man there's really an option for everything thank you!
Account tags
As in tagging other users?
The notes feature on accounts that shows next to the username

Then the three dots next to the user

Then tag

Ok, there. Wasn't obvious.
Looks subscription locked?
It's stored on the cloud to sync across devices + installs
Option to choose between the regular and dark mode icons
Dark mode icons?
The default icon goes dark when I enabled dark mode, I'd like to keep the light mode one
Can you share a screenshot of what you mean please?

Hm, can't get it to switch to the light mode one, maybe Nova is bugging out? It's def not a custom icon set by me though
Ah gotcha. That shouldn't show the light one at all, I'll get that fixed.
The light one fits better into my setup, would you consider offering both?
Thank you for your great work! :)
The one issue I have is that the text is very small while composing comments, and I haven't found a setting to change that.
Here is a screenshot.
Ok this kinda works, ty!
But there still seems to be some issues with the relative font scaling. I have to crank up the base font size quite a bit in order to get a decent size for the editor, but then fonts are huge in all the other places. It can be fixed for posts and comments since they have their own options for it, but not for UI elements like the settings menu.
I think what's missing is a dedicated setting for the editor font scaling, or making it the same as post/comment font size.
Would there be a way to implement a meta reddit style setup?
ljdawson@lemmy.world hi! Late to the party, but could you fix spoilers to align them with Lemmy's format?
A setting to hide posts that I have voted on. I miss this from Reddit.
It seems like a lot of images and gifs on Lemmy are hosted on catbox.moe and exactly zero of them ever load. Any chance of adding support?
Still having this issue?
Setting a default filter mode for comments. I could find a way to do this in settings, so maybe I'm missing something, but I'd expect it to be the same as default filtering for posts.
Do you mean sort?
Hide NSFW doesn't work anymore. Only blurs.
Sync doesn't seem to format post titles which have links, which breaks the titles of posts made from mastodon ( since the hashtags are in the title).
Just added support for this ^
Restoring the broken filters and fixing the missing saved content bug. But even more important you should be improving your build process' release cycle so you can push out fixes out before new features. I don't want more fluff right now, I want the app I paid for to work as advertised. It's been a month and I'm starting to consider other free competitors.
Restoring the broken filters
This has already been logged on the issue tracker and fixed.
missing saved content bug
Do you have more information on this?
Keep in mind sync is still in beta whilst I iron out all the bugs.
Yep, definitely getting frustrated that the communities I've blocked keep popping up in my feed now and I can't get rid of them cause the block list or filters or whatever aren't working.
Blocked on Lemmy or filtered in sync?
Honestly, not sure. I've been going to the community I want to block and hitting block at the top, but that doesn't remove posts from that community from the everything page. It was working for a bit but doesn't anymore.
Are they listed as blocked here?
Yes, and I haven't been online much yet, but a quick scroll looks like the most recent update fixed it for me. Thanks for all your work!
I'd love to be able to adjust line spacing in the body text of posts, like I'm able to do for the comments. Also, now that I'm writing this, I'm noticing that it would be nice to have that in this reply composition screen too. But maybe I just haven't found that one?
I would like to be able to set another type of default sort. Default sort is now "active", I would like to be able to change that to "hot".
(or maybe it's already there but I can't find the setting?)
Just search "sort" in the settings and you'll find a spot where you can set the default sort. I also switched mine to hot.
I know I'm very late but:
Thank you!!!!
Is it possible to add an option to remove the notification bar at the top of the screen when scrolling? Basically full screen when scrolling.
There used to be a Reddit app that supported this but I forget which.
Oh boy. Thanks for that. I searched settings for 'notification' and of course found nothing related.
Is that known as the status bar then and I've been calling it the wrong thing all this time?
Hahaha - I have no idea, honestly. It seemed like the same thing to me, so maybe both?
I have a habit of going through all of the settings (to see what I like), and happened to notice that thing specifically. But, I try to help out whenever that sort of thing happens, though!
Small thing but I'd love some metadata about the comment or post when I'm replying. Things like the time it was posted, username and maybe even subreddit with the instance. The full thread for nested comments would maybe be nice but maybe the ui for scrolling through that would be messy.
I think that getting support for 0.19 working is a bit important now, since many smaller instances seem to be taking the plunge and upgrading to the beta, so being able to login and support lemmy instances with the new auth protocols is very important.
2 old features I liked from the reddit version. Probably going to be quite low priority versus some other things, but they're the missing things I'm noticing most.
-
The little "next / previous comment" arrows. Worked very well for skipping comment chains when you're already a bit into them.

The little "+#" count next to the total comments to show how many new comments have popped up in a post. Combined with the unread comment dot it made keeping track of new comments on a thread I liked nice.
Not sure if I'm doing something wrong, have an incorrect setting, or if this is expected behavior, but the thing that's been driving me nuts is when I go to share a link it always copies the source of the post for the lemmy link.
If, for example, I'm browsing on lemmy.ml and I want to share a post from lemmy.world, I'd like to be able to copy the lemmy.ml version of the lemmy.world post.
It doesn't make as much sense with public instances, but when you're using a private instance and you want to share with friends and family it can be kind of a hassle to retrieve the URL for said private instance.
Would be nice to be able to see a single comment thread for any given comment, not only when coming from profile comments section.
I haven't seen other people report this, but for me if you click on comments then hit back it won't take you to the page you clicked on the comment link from, but rather the previous one. So if I was on page 2, go into comments then click' back' I'd end up on page 1.
In app YouTube player like Reddit Sync had. Drives me nuts when I inadvertently click a YouTube link and it takes me to the YouTube app. It's a pain to get back to Lemmy.
Also, I think I remember a check box on Reddit Sync's in app browser to disable cookies or clear on close or something. That would be nice to have back.
Google killed the in app YouTube player sadly
That's lame. I hate it when clicking YouTube links take me out of the app. Plus if I click on something I normally wouldn't watch it ends up in my history and screws up my feed.
Appreciate all the work you put into the app by the way!

User mentions doesn't appear to be working for me.
Someone mentioned me a couple of days ago and it never came through. Could it be an instance thing?
How feasible would it be to create toggle-able filters. e.g. I could toggle a sports team community when I haven't seen the result of a game.
If no content found on default sort, automatically fail over to a second sort selected by the user.
I.e add a toggle that allows "if default is top 12hrs but no content found, load content from new."
It would be super helpful if we can hide entire instances from showing up at an individual level. For e.g. I see a lot of posts from feddit.de - I don't have anything bad against the server or the users, but the posts there add no value to my experience and fill up my feed with content I'll simply not understand. It would be a better UX to be able to hide these without having the home instance and other users on it be affected by your preference.
Is this what you're talking about?
Settings shortcut: Filters > Instance filters
(Looked like someone else told you another way to get the same effect, but this way you can input any you know of without having to wait to see the posts. Maybe?)
If you click on the 3 dots to access the post options for a post from that instance, there is an option to filter out just that community or even that whole instance. I've done that with several non-english instances.
I have no idea how this works so hopefully this isn't too wild but it would be neat to be able to use the app with kbin (a kbin account from a kbin instance, not just look at kbin content is what I mean)
Edit: nvm i see someone else already suggested it and you responded, should've checked first
I am still not able to see media from "files.catbox.moe"

Thank you for this amazing app! I'd like to be able to download images to my Downloads folder. I'm on Android 12 and currently I cannot select it. It shouldn't be an issue since newer Android versions don't even require write permissions for that.
I miss the navigation buttons I had on RIF. Each comment had a next and previous button which would jump the focus to the next or previous comment. Replies had a go-to-parent button
Have you tried this?
Also, posts like this look kinda silly
Do you mean the 2-column look? Mine doesn't look the same, so I'm sure there's a setting for that - I'm just not sure where it is atm...

Any progress on WebM support? Not sure about other instances, but mine converts GIFs to WebM by default when I upload from Sync. But posts with WebM just act like still images in Sync, and tapping on them just leads to a button to open the WebM in a browser.
Some pages don't have overscroll rubberbanding.
I know it's a little one but please fix the spacing of the notification when hiding posts:

I love long pressing an image to view and sliding my finger down to the options at the bottom to copy, view in browser, etc. Would be nice if download was one of those quick actions.
I can only find an option to block the community, not the instance. Blocking|hiding communities individually is tedious when you're trying to personalize your feed
Is this what you're looking for? Settings shortcut: Filters > Instance filters
Yes! Thank you so much!! It's beautiful this app has the feature I wanted already available š¤
You do great work!! Sync has been my most used app for longer than I remember.
Any chance for some tweaks for tablets and foldables?
⢠I think it would be nice to be able to hide the navigation rail. It feels like a lot of wasted space. The FAB can do everything the rail can while being better looking and easier to reach.
⢠Maybe more column settings for view types (for folded/unfolded)? I like a single column on the outside screen, 2 columns on the inner screen in portrait, and 3 columns on the inner screen in landscape. This is possible in Infinity for Lemmy. But Infinity, as a whole, is not nearly as polished as your app.
I currently use Infinity on my Fold's outer display for single column viewing and Sync on the inner display with tablet mode disabled to avoid the navigation rail. These tweaks would be awesome for foldable users (all 10 of us) so we could get a better use of space while also enjoying the tablet mode features.
What navigation rail?

Option to disable long-press to hide comment.
I have never had a desire to hide a comment and I do it constantly unintentionally.
Not sure where to submit bug reports:
This comment contaisn a link that contains two symbols. Sync inserts a link with the assumption that the two signify a Lemmy username.

I'd like to not have the title of an image post not be carried over when trying to share externally.
I'd like to see the "read text aloud" feature extended to the body of posts.
My lemmy instance doesn't allow uploading of images at all. It would be awesome to have a setting that would change the add image function from uploading and image, to providing text boxes for alt text and link instead and have it automatically add the syntax to embed the image in the comment:

I would like it if a community would remember the sorting I selected. Some communities I prefer to read sorted by newest. Others I like to read top last 12 hours.
A feature I would love to have is Auto load next page if a full page of results is filtered. With some communities getting fed content by posting bots that load a chunk of posts all at once, I often hit instances while browsing /all where multiple pages will be empty due to filters. It would be great if the app just loaded the next page automatically in these instances instead of having to manually load the next page.
I have an issue and not sure where to send it. I think "some" post makes Sync crash.

I hid about 5 posts and now there are no posts and the app doesn't crash and doesn't load new posts.

Maybe I need to relogin...
I've submitted a fix to Google for this.
I'd like a way to block " X " posts. The filters seem to strip leading and trailing spaces from the keywords.
I love the post preview feature when sharing posts online or with friends.

I think something that would be beneficial to Lemmy (and hence Sync) would be if the entire community name (such as syncforlemmy@lemmy.world) be displayed in the preview.
A rough MS Paint example:

Follow up:
It appears that for communities in other instances, the full name does show up (eg. Termux@programming.dev). If it's on lemmy.world (or rather your own instance), it doesn't show the instance name.

If you don't want to see any posts from any bots, the current easiest way is to use the web to go to your account settings and turn off the thing that says "show bots".
I don't disagree that it would be a nice addition, but that's what we can do in the meantime. Unless you want to just block each of them like they are a normal user, I guess. I find value in some of the bots, so I allow showing bots and just block the ones I don't like.
This isn't really a feature suggestion, but rather a quality of life improvement.
Lately I've been getting a lot of messages saying "All posts hidden on page ### - RETRY" due to having to have so many filters on Lemmy to hide whole communities.
Just this morning I had to hit retry about 6-7 times in a row because there were 6-7 pages on posts completely filtered out..
Had the same issue on sync for reddit but it wasn't as noticeable since filters weren't required as much. On Lemmy it's a staple and kind of annoying once you have a fair bit of communities filtered out.
Is it this option when you go to share? I think you can just turn off the title, can't you?

And does catbox not work? I thought that was this setting (but I don't think I've actually encountered any media from there to know for sure) Settings shortcut: Link handling > Catbox.moe videos
Just popped in to mention that I still have catbox files not working.

The thumbnail/photo will not show.

Thank you. I will look at this more closely!
I'd love these things:
- Be able to mark text and wrap with `...`, back ticks, for code formatting.
- Mark comment replies as unread.
I just need the version without ads.
Thanks. Was waiting for pro or something similar.
In app purchase is the only way.
Fix the "Todo" on the post action bar
Which one sorry?
Pressing this button just makes a toast that says "TODO"
Ah gotcha. Already fixed that one for the next release. Cheers!
Nice, appreciate your work on the app!
I would really love to see a "Comment Score" and/or a "Post Score" (or even an "Total Score") like other Lemmy apps do (Like Voyager). Like how Reddit does karma where you can see total upvotes on all a user's content.
Not necessary but my monkey brain firmly believes that bigger number = better person.
Otherwise app is perfect <3 thx
I hate this so please make it optional. Burry it in the settings. It's unhealthy.
