Rsync is reportedly causing backups to fail since maintainer began AI code experiment
18d 3h ago in fuck_ai from files.catbox.moeA very important question is being hypothesized here and I hope we all come to a conclusion sooner rather than later.
Is it better for a FOSS project to be abandoned because a single maintainer is overwhelmed? OR Should a single maintainer use LLM tools to continue a project they no longer are able to handle?
I personally see abandoned projects easier to pick up when left "as is" for someone to eventually come in. Doing massive amounts of ai code that eventually breaks the functionality (or presumably does), and then expecting people to come in to a larger shit storm seems daunting.
In Delaware, Corporations Can Now Vote. Are We Insane?
18d 8h ago in boycottus@lemmy.ca from www.commondreams.orgoh, just finished reading the "article". It's kinda just an ad for Hartman's new book, this has been going on for 140 years. There was just a recent ruling upholding it is all, Reuters has the actual article. Used to listen to Hartman a lot back in the day, sad to see him using a clickbait-inaccurate title.
Delaware court upholds voting by companies in small town's election (actual correct article title)
The American Civil Liberties Union of Delaware sued the town, arguing it violated the elections clause of the state constitution. The group sought a court order blocking Fenwick Island from counting votes by "non-human artificial entities" in future elections. Nonresident voting in local elections has been permitted in Fenwick Island since it was incorporated in 1953, according to the court ruling. In 2008, Delaware's General Assembly amended the charter to allow non-resident voting by artificial entities, including corporations, partnerships, trusts and limited liability companies, which must be chartered in Delaware.
Definitely shitty situation, but wtf Thom? From his opinion article:
Seriously. Not dystopian science fiction or a new novel by an AI version of George Orwell. Actual corporations
From the reuters article:
Karsnitz said he appreciated that the ACLU of Delaware might disagree with corporate voting. "Visions of faceless large corporations or even HAL controlling a small town are frightening and the stuff of science fiction," he wrote
Is this just AI eating itself or like blatant lazy-plagiarism style writing to make an ad?
Is there an "Avoid Amazon" community for people who want to support smaller online retailers?
27d 18h ago in nostupidquestionsI use walmart for a select few items that are recurring monthly because I can't get them at any other store locally. I don't do shipping anymore because often when something is delivered it's an individual driving for some reason (had a like 3$ item the store was out of stock with, next day some poor soul had to drive it all the way out to my place to deliver a piece of plastic)
The App for Walmart is the biggest piece of shit I've ever ran into! It just keeps getting worse month after month, pages of sponsored items when searching (which reloads sponsored content again when loading more results), video after video completely fucking the app up with lag. You can't filter by unit price anymore, constant pop ups for Walmart+, trash sidescroll recommendations literally every few results, and even selecting "in-store" gets bullshit results and recommendations that have to be shipped.
Why do you prefer the Fediverse over other Social Media?
27d 21h ago in asklemmyI realized a few weeks ago, when a question was asked about what all the off-shoots of the fediverse were, that the "lemmy-style" of social media is the only one I like (piefed, etc included). I realized all the other ones focused on "following users" which is why I never got into them. I use voyager a lot to lurk when I'm away from the pc and it doesn't even show who posts it.
I just have no desire to follow an individual, company, influencer, or celebrity shit. I'm here for the content, poster be damned (but respectfully appreciate their contribution). I want a subscription feed based off of categories, just wish there was a video platform that did the same thing (I was always horrible about not using subscription feed for youtube and mostly only used it for local and news).
Begun the shitting has
1mon 17d ago in lemmyshitpost from lemmy.dbzer0.comHe did such an awesome job, I wanted to post the video but I have no idea where to post it. It's not really politics or political leaders but it is. Every community that I went to, it seems like it would break a rule so happy to see someone shitposting it at least.

Is this just people upset that someone is challenging their beliefs that are being reinforced with the graphic but can't dispute any positives in their data collection process?

1mon 17d ago in youshouldknowCommented above, it's actually worse for septic tank systems. Your sewage is collected by a business (with your particular address and name associated with billing) and processed at some of the same facilities the monitoring equipment would be setup at. You would have years of drug use stored as evidence (and the tank on your property for further evidence) and they would have a better case of probable cause to investigate your particular residence instead of a county/town wide report.
NP! it's a shit acronym to be honest lol. Someone must get off to it because it's used everywhere instead of actual titles and/or departments in the states.
I wouldn't be too sure of that, could actually be worse for septic system users. I could easily see a system implemented where a septic tank truck has to be "inspected" when it goes to process the waste. If sensors tripped or flagged then they would sequester the employee and his logs which would lead them straight to your house or a few handful. Kinda like how junkyards require identification and address the metals came from in case an investigation needs to be launched about stolen goods.
