As laid-off professionals flood the labor market, In-N-Out proudly replaces teenagers with desperate former engineers, turning burger service into a highly optimized career graveyard.
Don’t they pay great and give benefits? Like a serious wage you can raise a family with?
I remember reading that.
Sounds like a great opportunity
They do, and competition is stiff.
If true I'll applaud them for that.
...but fuck me, I won't eat there if they pay me. Their food is so bad.
I’ve gotta drill down on you not liking the food, cause of all the complaints I’ve heard about In-N-Out it’s not the quality haha.
It’s not the best burger in the world, but IMHO they beast out all the other quick serve burger joints
They don't par fry their fries, so the common complaint is that the fries suck. Just ask for them to be "well done" and you'll get crispy fries instead of soggy ones.
I have a pretty small appetite and I rarely order fries so I did forget about that. Fair play haha
The fries taste like they ground up some pringles and shaped them like fries, dry and flavorless, and when I say flavorless I mean I can't even detect potato in there, they might as well be crispy air, no idea how they do that. The hamburger patties are so thin it's actually hilarious, similarly dry as fuck, and if they weren't salted to hell and back they wouldn't have any flavor at all. I gave them a few shots at multiple locations because I have a few friends that rave about them, but I still haven't finished a meal there.
TL;DR In-n-out tastes like dehydrated McDonald's, and I don't even like McDonald's
I mean, they put a potato through the slicer, fry them, and toss with salt. That’s it.
They're also fried in vegetable oil. Awesome for vegetarians like me, but some people only like fries cooked in animal fats like McDonald's does.
If I had to guess it's because they're sliced so thin. Most fries have a crispy outside and soft potato-ey center, but in-n-outs are like "oops, all crispy!"
Damn, I thought I was the only one who thought this. The most disappointing and over hyped food I've ever had. I didn't believe a burger could give me cottonmouth...
They actually do pay their employees $20/hr in my area. Which is above minimum wage and could buy a one bedroom apartment comfortably (~$1200+). That’s 41,600 USD per year based on no vacation or sick days and 40 hours per week. So let’s say a generous 35,000 after taxes. If two people are working there, that’s 70k, and probably enough to afford a two bedroom apartment. Maybe enough to raise a single kid if they don't require childcare because they have a relative or community center for free or cheap.
So, basic income for living? Yes. Kids… probably not for a single parent. House—never (but that’s a different conversation)
I like in-and-out but they're putting one in my town at one of the busiest shopping areas, in between two of the busiest streets, and right next to the on ramp going into a major metropolis.
Our traffic is going to be fucked...
If they can afford to pay their employees decently (a good thing!) then they can afford to bribe the city to look the other way apparently.
They’re open until 1:30. There’s one across the street. I hear revving engines of retard magats all night long in the drive through.
