LPT: Stop engaging with online content that makes you angry! The algorithms are keeping you angry, turning you into a zealot, and you aren't actually informed!

Arguing with people online is a very tempting rage trap. Good tip.

Never debate on the internet most people are like brick walls you can't get through to them and they don't want to change, plus what's the point the only person you're trying to prove is your self

This is some tragic levels of pessimism. Theres lots of real people online worth talking to.

I never really thought of it that way, but that is exactly what it is… a rage trap. My question is this fascination with media and rage trap is this just prevalent in America or does this fascination affects countries in the European Union or Europe ?

I think it’s a global phenomenon. Part of it might be feeling the need to be angry on behalf of other people or causes - rather than about something you have directly experienced. Lots of psychology to unpack.

I eventually started filtering out a long list of content involving American politics - I honestly couldn’t care less about MTG and trump and the lot of them.

Social media is the worst place to get news from

Yep it turns people into rage-aholics.

This is an excellent tip. Folks need to understand that most social media will just amplify the things you linger on, click, or even talk about in some cases.

When I see a news link on social media, I ignore it for the most part. If it’s something I’m interested in, I hop over to something like Ground news, AP or Reuters and see if there’s anything about it there.

I stopped watching short form media for this reason. I realized that I didn't remember what I had just watched, nor did I care. When I did remember it was usually someones opinion on someone elses opinion on some topic that neither party knew anything about. Other times it was someone jumping into a swimming pool in a dinosaur costume. It's full of reactionary ideas and chains of dominos called trends. I still waste hours daily watching TV or listening to music. But I enjoy doing that far more than flicking tictok or Instagram. Lemmy is an exception to that rule. I liked Reddit and link aggregators tend to have significantly more diversity in content.

Great tip I did this with political rage bait and my life has been better

lol the coincidence I just unsubed from a lot of yt channels and erased my history because they where way too political and all ways in chaoes

When you see rage bait don't engage. Stay mentally strong and true to yourself.

Next time a person starts angrily parroting some nonsense tell them to stop being a fool and falling for rage bait.

Exactly, ingoring is really the best thing that can be done in most cases.

I deleted all my social media accounts a year a go

this is social media

I'm not turning into a zealot. Kind of accusatory lol

I like engaging though
