Adding monitoring to my self-hosted services:

• a bunch of different Prometheus exporters report data
• Prometheus collects data, remembers it, and fires alerts
• Grafana draws charts of the same data
• AlertManager decides when to alert, and deduplicates alerts
• ntfy sends push notifications to my phone

Yum!

What for? My grocery store (and every other merchant I frequent) already knows and tracks what I buy. Nothing would stop them selling the data to advertisers, even if I paid for my bread in Bitcoin.

sway. I tried hyprland, but it was unable to switch between different maximized windows (monocle layout). There was a way, but it triggered a resize on every window switch, which was slow and annoying. I don't know if it's perhaps been fixed since then.

I know this word in 3 languages (4, if you count English and Latin separately) - yet I've probably never had occasion to actually say it. What a waste of bytes. Or octets, for you.

Get an old Android phone, possibly with a dead screen (bootloader must be unlocked). Flash PostmarketOS on it, or (if not supported) Termux. Its idle usage (with WiFi on, screen off) may be considerably less than 1w. It'll have considerable amounts of CPU cores and RAM, more than a cheap VPS.

Find a car. It needn't be in perfect condition. It'll let you run away from many a sticky situation, carry your loot, provide light, and you can mod it. Perhaps add a minifridge or such.

It's actually good to have the wrong layout printed. You'll get multiple times the confusion, especially with non-touch-typists, who'll just assume they hit all the wrong keys, and will try again and again.

Now I wonder how US doms are doing…
